@cattleNcrops83 Same around here a bit east of you. Lots of guys rolling today, not much moisture in worked dirt. No-till looks nice but cold yet.

I mean with surplus seed supply, $7 corn and soil conditions like this I can see why everyone is excited for #plant26 🌽 🤨

@Iowacrops IDK what your trying to get at here. Pretty sure pasture fire coverage is not a thing. Know the producer speaking personally. He give his heart to his cattle and the land. They have lost a lot but still working hard to have a successful season.

Wearing a Farm Credit hat and content sponsored by Farm Bureau.. The real question is did either of those companies offer him Pasture Fire Coverage? I’m guessing not since it wasn’t mentioned in this add.

@dvanklomp Go get a short wheelbase truck! I have had two now like this picture and love them. Usually buy for 5-9k enough brakes to stop any trailer and a whole lot tougher than a pickup. Otherwise buy a gas pickup.

I’ve been looking for a cheap diesel pickup for a farm truck. Trying to convince an 18 yr old kid that a pickup with a hole in the corner of the box for a smoke stack and a tuner set on NASA mode doesn’t add value (actually devalues it) is getting exhausting.

@FoulkShay I like the ideas. I have gotten the survey in mail last 2 years and make it a point to fill out. Wish interface was nicer, seems like have to input same data 3 times. I think it it was easier and faster more would do also. Also my acres should be loaded survey to survey.

There’s always bad actors. Easy to tie the data back to the producer and zero out erroneous or false data. To your first point, I think that is easy to qualify or put an indicator showing “ only 2% of anticipated respondents have filled out the survey” and have a color system that goes with it. something simple

@FoulkShay Same thing here, mine was sitting at 4.76, next one 4.82. Steps all the way to 5.15. Averaging contracts for CZ27 start next week and close in July also. Interesting perspective to walk into renewal meeting and be 50% sold on the next years crop.

@gwiesefarms Was in same boat couple years ago. New loan officer only wanted to tell me what to chase and that my goals were all wrong. Bank listened, moved me over to different loan officer couldn't be happier. Still with bank, but always have small loans to keep relationships other places.

I work with 2 banks to finance my part-time farming needs. 1 handles the operating note. The other has my real estate debt. I have done this to keep my options open at all times and to keep both parties honest. Right now I’m working on a new land purchase and had considered moving my real estate debt over to the operating bank due to the positive experience I’ve had there. The catch I ran into this past month is my banker had changed. They wanted me to work with someone else. I called and explained what I was trying to do and almost immediately could tell they didn’t think this was a great idea. They were rigid in how they approached business and didn’t want to consider any banking option that would require extra work on their behalf. On the flip side, I checked with my real estate banker to see if they could do what I was asking and the response was, “absolutely, we will find a way”. Their response may have just won them a new operating customer as well. Agriculture (and life) are a people business. A can-do attitude, willingness to be open to new ideas, and hard work can take you a long ways in life.

@stevewhitenews Is it still possible to get a flip phone for the kids? Calls only nothing else? That is what I had growing up when others had smart phones and texting. Nice to be able to call when needed something but stayed out of all other stuff. We are on team no phone for kids in future.

Had a tough talk with my kids after such an incident. Any other families normalizing phone-free kids?

Our kids are some of the last of their peers without phone and I really wish others would hold out longer. Many 12-year-olds are not mature enough. It’s even worse with AI when students can generate fake images.

@LivinLikeLil Had same issue couple weeks ago on rock/gravel. Freight 20 miles was 3 times the cost of product. Makes me want to partner on a side dump with someone.

Trucking distillers 7 miles to the farm cost more than the product itself. SEVEN. MILES. The cycle continues…..

@SecRollins as a follow up to yesterday's video on prices being down, here is our client's @AgViewSolutions average increase normalized for 1,000 acres of corn. Every input listed here is an increase, and this is not including Return to Management (paying yourself, healthcare etc.) I'm happy to share data and discuss further. The truth, on the ground, can help make more informed decisions.

@gwiesefarms Dad did same with me. I knew more about the farm books and business decisions at 18 that others do not get to see until their 30s. Huge to understand decisions and their repercussions early in life.

One of the most successful farmers I work with doesn’t talk to me unless his kids are around. Everything he learns, they also will learn. They will have no problems with succession planning. The next generation already has a generations worth of knowledge acquired.

@tmonteIH For sure a ranch tractor. We have bought a couple over the years, always something held together by a thread to get by. Always ran hard too.

@jlew1415 But Dr. Lewis, most do not understand that no statistical difference can be an answer. 5bu in 250/a grain is 2%. Every little change must mean something 🤣

While you can learn some things from unreplicated side by side trials it really strikes my statistician nerve when they try and attach an ROI to those comparisons. You cannot convince me that a 5 bu/a increase isn’t statistical noise

@stevewhitenews I saw this ad and looked at my wife and set its just the beginning. Soon they will use the same camera to track when you are home or away as a "service". To me looked like a way to give up your rights for privacy.

@dvanklomp I saw that post and laughed way to loud at home. Hey can I get 3 ears per week for my yard rodents (Squirrels). I don't want any more than that in my garage.

Today I listed a handful of bags of whole corn on the cob on FB marketplace. $10 apiece. No ma’am I won’t deliver and no ma’am I won’t split them apart for you. This was a mistake.

@Cornfrmr I will never forget being a kid and listening to him over lunch with Dad. If we missed the first part we could change the channel from 96.5 to 880 KRVN and catch his show starting 30 min later to catch what we missed at first. "Paul Harvey Good Day"
