@sykescottages I made a booking for one of your cottages paid in full. Was called and told the cottage wasn't available for the duration and I would be refunded but it's been over 8 days. Can't get through to speak to anyone, no replies to emails or messages and no refund issued.

@Englishomestead Huge dog lover here and we took our dog everywhere with us. BUT owning a dog is a much bigger responsibility than most people realise, particularly working breeds. It's hard work and too many people don't put in the work to have a well behaved dog.

Tomorrow, 7 more trees will be cut down in #oakham Rutland. This is on top of 23 already cut from the development site and despite a lack of an Ecological Mitigation Report for this section. Shocking decision making by @rutlandcouncil

@premnsikka UK railway transport is a disaster. We can often fly to Europe for less than the cost of a rail ticket.

Rail was privatised with the claim that it would end subsidies. Reality: Public Subsidy. 2023, £11.9bn 2022, £13.3bn 2021, £16.9bn 2020, £6.5bn 2019, £4.3bn 2018, £4bn 2017, £3.4bn 2016, £4.8bn 2015, £4.8bn 2014, £5.3bn £75.2bn subsidy + high fares = Profits. Must nationalise.

@DrDavidGK I enjoyed your article re Bham trees. Yet shockingly, @rutlandcouncil handed over responsibility of local roadworks to a developer who are felling 7 large trees in Oakham town without any public consultation or input from the Tree Officer. Residents given no notice.

Now that prisoners - including some convicted of violent crimes - are being released early due to overcrowding, it is even more outrageous that peaceful climate protesters face jail. The Tories' authoritarian anti-protest laws must be repealed.

@BobFromAccounts The train line in our town is so expensive that most people here drive 20 minutes to a different town to use the train on a slightly more affordable line to London. Because travel by train has become a luxury since privatisation.

It's exactly that: a luxury, a privilege, and far too cheap. Build more public transport

@aliciakearns Did you know that Oakham residents haven't been consulted on this? We knew roadworks were planned but were given one week's notice of the start of works including felling of SEVEN large trees. Can we at least have new trees planted by the developers?

@Saralimback We finally had a perfect plot allocated this year, started well, but sadly a number of unforeseen events prevented us from giving it the attention it deserves. I've just handed in our notice after only 7 months. No shame in that, we'll go back on the wait-list when ready.

So before we get into it I’ve a question for #allotment folks out there!! On your site are there plots that aren’t well looked after with minimal effort, and what do you think should be done….

Our garden is 3 years old and only small, not terribly well planned in terms of planting & repetition, but it's full of bees, butterflies, ladybirds & birds. I don't buy compost, I don't use pesticides or chemicals, I cut and drop. The plants seem to love it.

When I’m feeling cheery enough to take the rejection, I sometimes get in touch with strangers who have scaffolding up, and ask if they would consider erecting bird boxes. Nearly every time they say no but today, for only the second time, someone said YES! 💫 (1)
