The news reports and social media posts of an Iranian crude cargo being diverted from Vadinar, India to China due to “payment issues” are factually incorrect. 🇮🇳India imports crude oil from 40+ countries, with companies having full flexibility to source oil from different sources & geographies based on commercial considerations.
Amid Middle East supply disruptions, Indian refiners have secured their crude oil requirements, including from Iran; and there is no payment hurdle for Iranian crude imports, contrary to the rumours being circulated.
Claims on vessel diversion ignore how oil trade works. Bills of Lading often carry indicative discharge ports destinations and on-sea cargoes can change destinations mid-voyage based on trade optimisation and operational flexibility.
It is reiterated that 🇮🇳India’s crude oil requirements remain fully secured for the coming months.
On LPG too, some claims being made are incorrect as LPG vessel Sea Bird carrying around 44 TMT Iranian LPG berthed at Mangalore, India on April 2 and is currently discharging.

Very happy to welcome my friend, prominent Sikh, distinguished jurist and former LOP of Punjab, Sardar @hsphoolka Ji into BJP Parivar, the world’s largest political movement.
My association with Phoolka Ji goes back several decades and I have personally witnessed the devotion and dedication with which he pursued the cases against perpetrators of mass atrocities committed against Sikhs in 1984.

Congratulations to the entire @NRL_MoPNG team on a landmark year. Processing 3,113 TMT of crude in FY 2025-26, at 103% capacity utilisation, is the refinery’s highest-ever throughput, and for the second consecutive year NRL has run beyond its rated 3 MMTPA capacity.
LPG production ramped up over 22% in March 2026 alone, responding precisely when the country needed it most. MS production, too, set a new annual record. NRL is not just Assam’s refinery; it is a strategic national asset, and its performance reflects PM Sh @narendramodi Ji’s vision of transforming the Northeast into an engine of India’s energy security.
Well done Team #NRL !

It is also clarified that regular petrol and diesel prices— the fuel that India runs on — are unchanged i.e. at Rs 94.77/litre and Rs 87.67/litre in Delhi. With global petroleum prices up by upto 100% in the last 1 month, PSU OMCs are incurring under-recoveries of Rs 24.40/litre on petrol and Rs 104.99/litre on diesel at RSP level as on 01.04.2026. These decisions are in line with Hon’ble PM @narendramodi Ji’s commitment to protect the Indian citizens from soaring international prices.
The recent Rs 2/litre revision applies only to premium petrol variants — XP95, Power95, Speed — high-octane performance products, whose prices are revised on fortnightly basis and whose sales by volume are 2% and 5% of total volume. They are purchased by motorists, at a premium, by choice.
Every pump in India continues to offer regular petrol and diesel at unchanged prices, even as prices in countries all over the world have risen by 30-50%.

Prices of Commercial LPG cylinders, used by industries and hotels, are deregulated, market determined and revised normally on a monthly basis. Their consumption is less than 10% of the total LPG consumed in the country.
April 1 price increase in Commercial cylinder price is due to a 44% surge in the Saudi Contract Price: from $542/MT in March to $780/MT for April, as 20-30% of global LPG supplies are stuck in Strait of Hormuz.
In line with the commitment of Hon’ble PM @narendramodi, the domestic consumer continues to be comprehensively protected:
∙14.2 kg domestic cylinder: Rs 913 — price unchanged
∙PMUY beneficiary price: Rs 613 — price unchanged.
At current prices, OMCs are incurring under recovery of Rs 380/cylinder. Cumulative losses by end-May will reach approximately Rs 40,484 crore. Last year also, out of total losses of Rs 60,000 crore, Rs 30,000 crore were absorbed by Oil PSUs and Rs 30,000 crore by Government of India, in order to insulate the Indian citizen from high international LPG prices.
India’s domestic LPG price remains one of the the lowest in the world as compared to Pakistan: Rs 1,046. Sri Lanka: Rs 1,242. Nepal: Rs 1,208.

With ATF prices in India—deregulated since 2001 and revised monthly based on international benchmarks, facing extraordinary pressure due to global energy disruptions and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a steep increase of over 100% was anticipated from 1 April.
In this challenging context, the decision by PSU Oil Marketing Companies, under the Ministry of Petroleum in consultation with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, to implement only a partial and staggered increase of 25% (Rs.15/litre) for domestic airlines is both pragmatic and forward-looking, while ensuring that foreign routes bear the full market-aligned price.
Grateful to Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi ji and the Hon’ble Petroleum Minister Shri @HardeepSPuri ji for this timely and considerate intervention on ATF pricing.
This calibrated approach will help shield passengers from sharp fare increases, ease the burden on domestic airlines, and support the continued stability of the aviation sector at this crucial juncture. It will also benefit the broader economy by ensuring the smooth movement of cargo and maintaining vital air connectivity for trade and logistics.

ATF prices in India were deregulated in 2001 and are revised on monthly basis based on a formula of international benchmarks. Due to the closure of Strait of Hormuz and extraordinary situation in global energy markets, price of ATF for domestic markets was expected to increase by more than 100% on 1 April.
In order to insulate the domestic travel costs from the substantial increase in international prices, PSU Oil Marketing Companies of the Ministry of Petroleum, in consultation with Ministry of Civil Aviation, have passed only a partial and staggered increase of 25% (only Rs.15/litre) to the airlines. Foreign routes will pay for the full increase in ATF prices consistent with what they pay in other parts of the world.
