@ExCllrRedmond I wish they'd get their story straight: Commenting on the results of the Worldview survey, Dóchas CEO Jane-Ann McKenna said: “Last week’s ‘European State of the Climate Report’ shows that Europe is the fastest-warming continent on Earth.reuters.com/world/africa/a…

@ClarkeMicah @DailyMail The former Master of a Dublin maternity hospital (currently clinical professor at UCD’s School of Medicine) would agree: "There are compelling grounds to believe Letby is innocent. A year ago, writing in these pages, I said “may be”. Now I have no doubts." irishtimes.com/opinion/2026/0…

This is nonsense. Yes, electricity is too expensive in Ireland right now. But people aren’t installing heat pumps in greater numbers because they still cost thousands, even after grants, and only work in A or B-rated homes.
TheJournal.ie@thejournal_ie

The high cost of electricity is the biggest barrier to heat pumps in Ireland, the director of retrofitting at the SEAI has said. And construction cost inflation caused by the Iran war is likely to spill over into the sector. jrnl.ie/7022382

@PaddyJManning Yes it's staggering how spectacularly wrong he is on a whole range of issues. (He wrote a typically sneering and patronising piece on immigration statistics in The Examiner in 2023 that was so inaccurate it beggars belief how he got away with it.)

@OdohertyI64991 He consistently predicted a Democrat win: "Kamala Harris will win the popular vote in the US by at least 5 million votes, and probably more. [They] have to win PA and one more swing state. I absolutely believe that they will" irishexaminer.com/opinion/column…

Fergus Finlay and all the Official Ireland wankers have fried their brains on TDS. Now they'll happily say on radio what they would usually keep for their shitty little think-ins. How predictable. How dull. How very, very *safe*
David Mullins@Mullins77David

Absolutely astonishing from Fergus Finlay on RTE just now re the shooting at the White House Correspondent event: "One of the good things to come out of it is that it spared the world Trumps 10 minute scripted speech and probably an hour and a half of his rambling."

@jconnollybooks @RTEGold Every time I hear Joe Jackson's Steppin' Out, it occurs to me that it could have easily appeared on Donald Fagan's The Nightfly album and few would have noticed. (Both albums released within months of each other in 1982 with vaguely similar titles, themes and production/sonics.)

@jconnollybooks Nice '90s vibe off that room/hotel...of the kind that still make a huge feature of featuring a, "flat-screen" TV. (There's been no other kind for over a quarter of a century!)

It’s been a while, but here, for the curious among you, is my hotel room for the next few nights. I opted for size over character. (Actually, that sounds a bit weird, but you know what I mean…) #HotelOdyssey

@prodnose Neil Young's dad (Scott Young) came to my dad's funeral and shook my hand at the church service. (August 20th 1992, Dublin.) One of those tales you simply couldn't make up - but it's true.

@OdohertyI64991 Or, as our old friend George Byrne once played on Today FM on Easter Sunday morning - Mott the Hoople's 'Roll Away The Stone'.

@OdohertyI64991 Ha! (I was in a crowded workplace lift a few years back when it got stuck. A voice came over the speaker to say everything was OK. My boss uttered the words, "this was Carlton your doorman." I was the only one who got the reference - had to explain it to the younger folk!)

@jconnollybooks @RTEGold Love hearing Paul Simon's 'Train in the Distance' again. Easy to forget that he was bigger in the '80s than he was during the previous two decades. Benefited hugely from the development of the CD.

@ClarkeMicah @DailyMail I hope you'll be asking them to elaborate on the specifics of these "baseless claims." (That said, I would have thought it very unwise for them to make any comment while an appeal is ongoing.)

Cheshire Police here accuse unnamed persons of 'misinformation' and 'baseless claims'. What 'misinformation' is this. Which claims are 'baseless'. It is hard to answer without details of these allegations. mol.im/a/15684499 via @DailyMail

A suspiciously bollard-free South Anne Street. Always love the view of Saint Ann’s church from here, especially as it catches the afternoon sun.

The Crown 📍418 Mare St, London E8 1HP The Crown is located at the top end of Mare Street in Hackney, East London. This is a former Truman’s pub dating back to 1856. The pub has a long-standing tradition as an Irish pub and has had a few different monikers over the years. #pub

@EamonDelaney10 The demise of Irish in the 1800s was encouraged by nationalists like Daniel O'Connell who said," The superior utility of the English tongue, as the medium of all modern communication is so great, that I can witness, without a sigh, the gradual disuse of Irish”. The truth hurts.

@DavQuinn Precisely - and as I posted elsewhere they can be very expensive to install: "Typically, it costs £10,000 to buy and install an air source heat pump - the type best suited to most UK homes." bbc.com/news/science-e…

@philipnolan1 For most of us these are fairly pointless - and expensive. From the BBC: "Unit for unit, electricity typically costs three times as much as gas & even though your new heat pump is three times as efficient as your gas boiler it costs about the same to run": bbc.com/news/science-e…
