Im perennially dis-satisfied. Im eternally grateful. This balance between wanting to do more and being thankful for what I have has been a great process of self discovery.

You have no experience. You’ve never started a company. You’ve never had a full time job. Nike is going to kill you. You’re a kid. You don’t have technical skills. You shouldn’t build hardware. Apple is going to kill you. You can’t build hardware. You can’t measure heart rate non-invasively. Athletes don’t care about recovery. Under Armour is going to kill you. It won’t be accurate. You don’t listen. You’re an ineffective leader. You can’t recruit great talent. You’re going to have to pay every athlete. You can’t measure sleep non-invasively. It’s too expensive to research. Athletes are a small market. The product costs too much to make. The product costs too much to sell. Your valuation is too high. Consumers aren’t going to want it. Hardware is too hard. You should measure steps. Fitbit is going to kill you. You can’t build a marketing engine. You can’t raise enough money. You need a real CEO. Google is going to kill you. You can’t be a subscription. You can’t build a brand. You can’t do consumer in Boston. Your valuation is too high. You shouldn’t make accessories. You shouldn’t make apparel. Lululemon is going to kill you. You can’t predict Covid. Stay in your niche. You are going to run out of money. You can’t build a health platform. Amazon is going to kill you. You can’t measure blood pressure. You can’t get medical approvals. The market is too small. You don’t understand AI. The market is too competitive. It won’t work internationally. The supply chain is too complicated. You can’t build an AI. You can’t raise enough money. It’s too competitive. Healthcare isn’t going to want it. … Just keep going ✌️

lots of smaller nuances that work well, taking time for oneself "me time" self care- bang on.. tug of heart kinda story - one that you want to share with your busy spouse.. Wish there was more focus on the brand - the story is good but does forest essentials register strong enough?
Karthik 🇮🇳@beastoftraal

Exceptional writing in this ad for Forest Essentials, by the agency Talented! Before I even get to the crux, I couldn't help marvel at the minor nuance thrown in - the daughter-in-law (Arjun's wife; we don't hear her name, but she is addressed with a lot of love as 'beta' and 'bachche'/'child') first calls her 'Aunty' and then 'Sorry... mummy', signifying that she's newly married and is still adjusting to the new home's rhythm. It's a small, almost fleeting detail, but it is lived-in details like this that add a rich texture to any writing. And then the crux: "Is it efficient to keep yourself on hold?" lands so beautifully - not as a talk-down from the mother-in-law, but as a genuine question worth asking. And it seems to come from—again, 'lived-in'—experience! The context the mother-in-law gives from her own life is not some high-funda logic. It is a remarkably simple and relatable anecdote. The closure is pure gold: 'Kabhi kabhi, hum kyun bhool jaate hain ki hum par hamaari khud ki bhi toh zimmedaari hai?' (Why do we often forget that we have a responsibility towards our own selves?). The only minor quibble that sprang up spontaneously while I watched the ad for the first time was that the tea-related anecdote makes the ad look like a tea brand's ad! The anecdote, combined with the last shot where they are both seen enjoying their cup of hot tea, that is! And guess what? Taj Mahal tea did precisely that - "Din ke ek cup chai, khud ke saath ho jaaye" (Come meet yourself, over a cup of tea)! See: tinyurl.com/tajnirali #advertising #marketing #creativity

if you are in, planning to, going to - be part of the travel sector in india - do give this a listen. Pertinent questions, nuances on why some things works vs dont and candor of convos! thanks @banglani for putting this together! @alokebajpai @deepkalra
Ritesh Banglani@banglani

A couple of months ago I got an incredible opportunity to sit with the stalwarts of online travel - @DeepKalraMMT of Makemytrip, @alokebajpai of Ixigo and @HariPyt of Pickyourtrail - and chat about the future of the industry. We addressed important questions like "how much influence do influencers really have?" and "why don't middle managers book their own travel?" besides trivial ones like the role of AI in travel. Check out the full conversation below (link in comments).

Shobhit Shukla@shuklashobhit

An experience selling consumer products in the countryside where you don't speak the language or even understand the competitor landscape is one of the best lessons you can learn as a young graduate as @HariPyt articulates here.

July 2013. An email from @allenpenn said I am Uber India’s first employee. I walked out of my home with no office, no team, no drivers, no playbook. Just the city of Bangalore and most importantly, a directive from Travis saying, “Go build it.” That moment changed my life. Not because of Uber. Because of how Travis taught me to see the world. He’s one of my top five heroes. Not in a poster-on-the-wall way but in a rewired-how-my-brain-works way. Before Travis, obstacles were just obstacles. After working with him, obstacles became the whole point. The harder the problem, the clearer the signal: no one else has solved it yet. That’s not a motivational quote. That’s an operating system he installed in me. The confidence I have today to build Basil with @HR_starryeyes didn’t come from an MBA or a book. It came from watching Travis take on entire industries and governments and simply say: “We’re doing this anyway. We won't take no for an answer”. Yep he left Uber. But Builders don’t retire. They reload. Travis was always building. Always thinking. Always in the arena. The world just couldn’t see it. Now with Atoms, everyone can. But here’s what I really want: I want @travisk to talk more. Write more. Share more. Because there are thousands of founders in India and around the world, sitting in small rooms, staring at impossible problems. They need to hear from someone who didn’t just build a company, but changed how a generation thinks about building. He shaped me. I know he can shape many more. Welcome back, TK. Write and share more!

Its easier and somehow friends get a lot more out of you :) excited for the edits.
Shobhit Shukla@shuklashobhit

Building in a volatile industry like travel is a risk many avoid. @Pickyourtrail is the prime example of how to thrive while the rest of the world navigates geopolitical shifts. Our guest on the 4th episode of @Revamp0fficial is @HariPyt, is a force of nature. Having known him for almost two decades, @sreejan_c and I know his secret: a deep love for the craft he picks up, whether it's consumer experience or mastering the German language. This would be a great podcast for: - The younger generation to learn how to bootstrap in the experience economy, rather than just spending on it. - The IIMB Community as they get a chance to relive that classic Hari energy we all remember. We wrapped the session by handing him Piyush Mishra’s “Tumhari Aukaat kya hai.” The title humbled him, but the story inside is one I know he’ll appreciate. Episode drops tomorrow!
