“The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that voters have a right to disclosure of government information that voters need to have meaningful debate about public issues, including the conduct of government officials, politicians and government institutions.” — Democracy Watch ⬇️

NEW: An advocacy group is planning to file a constitutional challenge to Ontario’s freedom of information clampdown, arguing it breaches the right of voters to be informed for a meaningful debate about public issues. globalnews.ca/news/11824648/… #onpoli

Give A Shit About Nature
Give A Shit About Nature@giveashitnature·
A solar farm in Minnesota planted native wildflowers between its panel rows. Five years later, total insect populations tripled. Native bees increased 20-fold. Not only did insect populations boom, soybean fields next to the solar arrays got twice as many bee visits as fields farther away. Two of the things we usually think of as competing turned out to reinforce each other. One study, published in Environmental Research Letters in late 2024, tracked two utility-scale solar sites built on retired farmland in southern Minnesota, where the developer seeded native prairie species between rows of panels in 2018. By 2022, the sites looked less like industrial energy infrastructure and more like remnant prairie. Goldenrod soldier beetles colonized the goldenrod stands. Bumblebees nested in the soil. Monarch butterflies passed through during migration. The wildflower diversity grew sevenfold; insect diversity grew eightfold. This matters because, like it or not, utility-scale solar is going to take up real space. The US is on track to cover roughly six million acres in panels by 2050. The default approach is turfgrass, gravel, or herbicide-maintained bare ground, which is ecologically dead. The Argonne study shows the alternative isn't more expensive or harder to maintain. It's just a different seed mix.

Shy'tyra Burton is 22 years old. She lives in Philadelphia with her dad, a city sanitation worker. Her IQ tests below seventy. After years of medical evaluations and a hearing in front of a federal judge, she qualifies for SSI — $994/month. Now Trump's people are writing a rule that would take up to $330 of that every single month, by assessing the dollar value of her bedroom and deducting it from her benefit. This is the second attempt. The first one was killed when ProPublica exposed it. Same people — Russell Vought at OMB and Frank Bisignano at SSA — are back with a new version, buried deeper in the regulatory process. Up to 400,000 disabled Americans could lose benefits. Forty Down syndrome organizations have already sent a letter opposing it. The National Association of Evangelicals — not a liberal group — has come out against it. When you've lost the evangelicals on a disability cut, you've lost the room. The man writing this rule had to Google what the Social Security Commissioner does when Trump offered him the job. A Republican congressman called his testimony "embarrassing for my side." Now he's deciding whether Shy'tyra keeps her check. The rule is in OMB review. A public comment window is coming. That's how it was stopped last time.

Absolute bombshell. Rep. Jason Crow exposes how Pete Hegseth secretly appointed Donald Trump's private campaign lawyer as a Navy Commander and Senior Advisor without Senate confirmation. He doesn't even know if the lawyer has a security clearance! The corruption is staggering.

OMG, @fordnation PC MPPs just voted NO to making sure new build schools are safe for children with disabilities. Again their hands went UP before the amendment was fully read. Proving yet again, @PaulCalandra does NOT want children with special needs in @fordnation schools.

There are grave concerns for the safety of the around 175 activists arbitrarily detained and being transported to Israel, after their vessels were boarded in international waters near Greece and Israel jammed their communication channels, severing their ability to coordinate or ask for help. This underscores the dangerous consequences of decades of impunity for Israel’s ongoing atrocity crimes against Palestinians, including genocide in the Gaza Strip and apartheid, and its unlawful occupation of Palestinian territory. The crew of the intercepted vessels must be immediately and unconditionally released. While in custody, the Israeli authorities must ensure that all activists are immediately granted access to consular support, treated humanely and protected from torture and other ill-treatment.

Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach. The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

We completed the investigation at Minab school, so Donald Trump doesn't have to. Triple tap U.S Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired on a busy school day. Many children were still alive after the first strike. As some tried to flee, they were targeted again - this time with teachers and parents too. This can only be described as evil crimes against children and humanity.

SHE REPORTED 1,400 CHILDREN BEING RAPED. THEY INVESTIGATED HER. Jayne Senior @Jes123tia456 spent 14 years as manager of Risky Business, a Rotherham Council project for vulnerable young women. For 14 years she handed evidence of systematic child sexual exploitation to police and social services. Names. Dates. Patterns. A 42-page intelligence report. She built the jigsaw piece by piece. They shut down her programme. They told her the records were rubbish. They told her she was rocking the multicultural boat. They told her the children were consenting. Children. Ten years old. She risked prosecution to become the source for Times journalist Andrew Norfolk, whose 2012 investigations finally broke the story open to the nation. The Jay Report in 2014 confirmed what she had been screaming into the void since the late 1990s: at least 1,400 children had been abused in Rotherham. Jayne got an MBE in 2016. The council got reputational damage it spent years managing. The officers got their pensions. When she filed complaints with the IOPC about senior police officers who had done nothing, the watchdog warned her that if she kept going, she would be labelled a vexatious complainant and could face imprisonment. She kept going. Her complaint was eventually upheld in 2021. The report naming the officers was never published. South Yorkshire Police @SYPTweet rejected the watchdog's findings. No officers were named. No further action was taken. Someone did warn her the officers might sue her personally if she spoke about it publicly. She spoke about it publicly. This is what accountability looks like in Britain. A youth worker risks prison to protect children. The institutions that failed those children close ranks, bury the reports, and threaten the one person who kept records. The children were the problem, apparently. Not the men. Not the police. Not the council. The woman with the filing cabinet. Source: The Times @thetimes, @BBC, @guardian , @yorkshirepost, Jay Report 2014, IOPC Operation Amazon 2022

He murdered Renee Nicole Good. Shot her three times and then called her a “f*cking b*tch”. Her last words? “It’s ok dude I’m not mad”. He got three days administrative leave before being transferred to another state. No punishment. No accountability. No justice.
