Let’s try this then: the will of the people who live in the Donbas & Crimea should decide whether they’re part of Russia or Ukraine

In general, it's a bad idea to ask customers what features they want, but it's a really good idea to ask them about their work and what's hard/frustrating/painful to do. It's your job to figure out the best way to fix that problem, not theirs.

@davidhazony Not sure it has any bearing on the concept of the "banality if evil" though

So it turns out that the whole “banality of evil” thing is a crock. They’ve unearthed recordings of Eichmann in Argentina bragging about what he had done. His performance at the trial was BS. haaretz.com/israel-news/20…

@etherealmind Yes. It means your employees are actively figuring out how to deliver value and do better work. That is always a good thing.

@allenholub I agree, yet I'm increasingly convinced that milling about in an office does not constitute "together". We need to be more intentional about when, where, how, and why we work together. Weekly collaboration days, more hackathons, and quarterly off-sites come to mind.

I'll pbly get in trouble for this, but I just do not believe people can do their best work working alone. We humans have a 200K-year history of not doing that. We are social animals. Coordinating once a day (or coordinating by leaving a trail of notes) is not working together.

@pgaffney @JorgeStolfi I want to make a small amount of publicly accessible data effectively impossible to erase and permanently available going forward, assuming powerful people and institutions want to erase it. What is the best solution?

Every computer scientist should be able to see that cryptocurrencies are totally disfunctional payment systems, and that "blockchain technology" (including "smart constracts") is a technological fraud. Would they please say that out loud?

Будет ли итог "Битвы за Донбасс" аналогичен итогу "Курской битвы"? Посмотрим. Это война. Случиться может все что угодно. Предсказать ничего нельзя, можно только пытаться анализировать.

I’m not going anywhere. Should this place become more toxic, I pledge to strive even harder to lift up reason, science, compassion and the rule of law. The struggle against fascism, misinformation, and hate requires tough fighters. I hope you stay in the fight, right beside me.

I don't much like the idea of "owners" (Product, Architectural, &c.). It reeks too much of a single wring-able neck to me, and usually increases delays and bottlenecks while you wait for somebody else to make decisions or give approvals. Coordinators? Sure. Owners? Not so much.

Perhaps there are two kinds of slow: annoying & deliberate. Annoying: results from bottlenecks, lack of skill. Deliberate: a correction action, meant to help us stop hurrying & rushing. We slow down to gain better balance and control, which ultimately helps us go faster.

Cultural uniformity - that's the real goal of Z-war. It is all about directing vernacular bifurcation of the ancient sacred community towards everyone becoming Russian. The problem with Ukraine is that it exists. That's a view deeply embedded in the Russian culture. End of 🧵

War of memes: why Z-war won't end with peace Some Western analysts unfamiliar with Eastern European cultural context perceive Z-war as an accident. They presume that Russian invasion results from some sort of "misunderstanding" or mistake which can be resolved via negotiations🧵

My thinking about booster #2 has shifted a bit in the past few days. Here's a 🧵 First of all, on Tuesday I decided to mix-and-match: I got Moderna after 3 Pfizers. The side effects were similar as with my Pfizers – just mild arm ache. Some folks have worse, of course. (1/25)
