@HawesMaths @StudyMaths Do you get them to re-write the questions so for example 4-7 becomes 4 + (-5). Started doing it with year 7s at previous school.

@MrBishop_Maths @StudyMaths Right. No, for that sort of question I would have taken 4 away to get to zero and then used zero pairs and taken three more positive counters to leave 3 red (signalling -3 as the answer).
