Turned the notes into a nice revision guide for students ready for their end of term test. Will keep adding to it as we go through the year. #maths #mathscpdchat #mathschat

This is, in my opinion, one of the most important skills in elementary math

Direct Instruction gets a bad rap, but here’s the truth: -Backed by decades of research -Most effective for foundational skills -Especially helps struggling learners Discovery, PBL, Inquiry? Great with guidance But unguided = confusion. Balance matters. #EduTwitter #Teaching

Using this crib sheet next year. This Teaching Toolkit is a total gem! ✔️ Spark curiosity ✔️ Get kids exploring + explaining ✔️ Stretch their thinking ✔️ Wrap up with reflection …and don’t forget those wider values + inclusion bits too! 🙌 #MathsTeacher #LessonPlanning #maths

@MrBishop_Maths @StudyMaths Or as another approach. Had 4 yellow counters and 7 red counters. Used zero pairs to cancel out leaving with 3 negative (red counters)

@HawesMaths @StudyMaths Do you get them to re-write the questions so for example 4-7 becomes 4 + (-5). Started doing it with year 7s at previous school.

➕➖Zero pairs is the ultimate for directed numbers. Using counters helps students see how positives & negatives cancel out — not just memorize rules 💡Physical learning = deeper understanding💡 Try it on @StudyMaths manipulatives! #MathsTeacher #ConcreteToAbstract #GCSEmaths

@MrBishop_Maths @StudyMaths Right. No, for that sort of question I would have taken 4 away to get to zero and then used zero pairs and taken three more positive counters to leave 3 red (signalling -3 as the answer).

@MrBMaths3 @StudyMaths Yes it is. Each teacher has a pack of counters for use to demonstrate and allow students to work with.
