@eddylazzarin I wanted my agent cli to generate a P256 key shared to iCloud by default. Not possible unless you use Passkey which is disappointing.

@Hayesgm Yeah, I just tried via 1Password and if you use iOS you can export but only directly into another password manager (you can't hold them directly) On desktop, you just can't export them

Imagine if you could export passkeys and store them wherever you want — they’d actually be good.

@eddylazzarin I believe it's encrypted during export and then non-exportable. You could try using 1Password, which at the least, can sync Passkeys with non-Apple devices.

@Hayesgm Once they’re in iCloud can you extract them at least? I don’t use Passkeys for anything important for these reasons

@chrisalbon Has genius idea to replace Eng with a team in Fiji since they are awake during peak hours.

Silicon Valley S10E5: Pied Piper discovers the Claude Code offers 2x rate limits between 5–11 AM. Richard and Dinesh go full polyphasic sleep to exploit it. Meanwhile Gavin Belson tries to mandate the same at Hooli and ends up losing half his engineering team.

I like the new #MLB ABS, but there should be two changes: (i) ABS should be instant. "Ball-- <tap> -- err Strike!" (ii) Only overturn if at least half a ball-width inside or out of zone. No "it was close, why not?" challenges.

Fun when a @Waymo decides to pull over in an active lane of traffic and support says “I don’t know” 🤷‍♂️ and you have to take an Uber instead.

Small problem with Waymo is that without the social pressure, people seem way more willing to leave bits of trash behind.

@waymo This is not a reasonable pickup spot for this location.

@maxhodak_ In practice, I often get quoted 5 minutes and after accepting jumps to 12 minutes. Likely has to quote a lot of people not knowing which will accept.

interesting benefit of waymo: it always matches instantly, since it knows exactly what cars are available and that they will always accept, and also can provide accurate wait times before requesting

@Kdodgers24 @StitchEmperor I had a great view here when our ride got stuck after the drop; they turned the lights on and had us walk out. The attention to detail in the ride is amazing, even in full lighting.

@Lsquaredleland @nickmartitsch @Noahpinion @SuccinctLabs Yeah and the crazier approach of tapping the camera traces themselves assuming Apple doesn’t have auth on the CMOS data lines themselves. I was mulling this for secure ranging and I think Apple’s approach is *very good* but not sure if it’s perfect.

@Hayesgm @nickmartitsch @Noahpinion @SuccinctLabs Great question! The main checks we do is ensure that the key in the secure enclave + the application have not been tampered with (via app attest). We can and should add a jailbroken detection library for added security.

@nickmartitsch @Noahpinion @SuccinctLabs Would you basically be trusting the Secure Enclave key (as signed by an Apple cert)? As far as I know, if you jailbreak an iPhone, you can likely get the SE to digitally sign any photo. SE gives good affirmative proofs "I did sign this" but harder to say things aren't forged.

It will be true again with ZK proofs! The secure enclave in your iPhone can sign photos cryptographically when captured, then ZK proofs let you verify "this came from real camera hardware" without exposing device details. Companies like @SuccinctLabs are working on verifiable media that will make the web human again
