The interesting thing about Lahn is that he talks about Iowa having problems that aren't caused by our political opponents. Feenstra, Steen etc all blame everything on the Left. (I dispose the Left too but don't blame them for our State's big issues)
Iowa Press@IowaPress

Why running Lahn: I decided to run because of the large issues facing the state. Iowans are talking about many things - leaving the state, cancer rates.

locked on big 12, america’s conference.
anyone who's lived in texas knows cody campbell is right: do not mess with the religion of texas high school football. and you especially do not put a top-15 game on a friday night. texas tech fans have a right to be mad. brett yormark makes some very out-of-touch statements.

@CouzWalker The idea that you're going to expand your "Brand" beyond your natural fanbase and geographic area is a fool's errand. WVU/Utah can have great seasons and have good TV numbers when they're good. Neither is going to become Ohio State neither is a large state flagship school

@DallinwBYU Let's be honest. Our various B12 brands aren't any bigger than our natural fanbase sizes. No one outside of the fanbase is going to watch Utah/BYU etc unless the teams are playing in compelling games. That only happens when we're good.

It pains me to say this… Utah’s TV brand has taken a hit in the Big 12 compared to the Pac-12 era. That’s the reality. And it’s why Utah’s long-term health depends on a move to the Big Ten — or an optimized Big 12/ACC league.

@TheWildUte How has our brand done since joining the Big 12? What about the rest of the new members?

I am perplexed Utah football goes 11-2 in 2025 (top 15 ranked) and Big 12 people seem to have no memory of this. This is evidence of my point that Utah’s brand has been eroded in this conference.
BoilerCat@BoilerCat54

@TheWildUte I mean you used to win the Pac12 and you haven’t won the Big12 yet. So is that the Big12’s fault or Utah’s fault?

@HazzardCoEng @ImmaculateView Iowa State is flat broke. They should drop any women’s sport that is prohibitively expensive and replace it with flag football, which is about as inexpensive as it gets

@MrTPSM @RossPeterson_ In Iowa, the unions have no power. In most smaller schools, you do have para educators because they're cheaper and more flexible than real teachers. Enrollment swings can really change budgets quickly and they are easier to deal with.

@HazzardCoEng @RossPeterson_ Most districts only have paraeducators that work one-on-one with a special education student. They are paid for by Medicaid, not the state or the district because that student has an IEP and a listed disability.

@ImmaculateView There has got to be some outside money supporting this for it to happen. It doesn't make any sense to further dilute our MBB and CFB money to pay for a sport than has zero local interest. There's not even a local league or pipeline of talent.

@HazzardCoEng You remember when the ISU thing first popped up and we had this conversation. Wrestling vs Flag Football. As much as I agree with you, I think ISU will go with what the conference is doing. What they might do is both of those and drop another women's sport.
