@DerekMcD041@hfxtraffic the municipal budget primarily comes from property tax, so homeowners and I assume renters (through their monthly fee) all contribute to municipal projects. The taxes/fees paid to access N.S. would go towards the provincial budget, which pays for highways.
@RickMcNS@Stephanie5775@hfxtraffic And only because you asked, the appropriate term is wheelchair user. When one says laden or bound or shortcoming it propagates negative stereotypes that people with disabilities deserve pity. Have a great day ❤️
@RickMcNS@Stephanie5775@hfxtraffic I don’t have the time to be offended, because I work full time and am a full time caregiver every other waking moment. But I wish people understood that parking in accessible spaces (even when just for a minute) affects people
@RickMcNS@Stephanie5775@hfxtraffic One last thought, People with disabilities live in ALL communities. If you don’t seem them, it is likely be sue you aren’t aware of where they live is inaccessible and makes it tough for them to navigate their neighbourhood
@RickMcNS@Stephanie5775@hfxtraffic Oh, so people with disabilities only stay close to the place they reside? Forgive me, I thought PWD enjoyed normal daily activities. I take my daughter for long walks every day outside of our neighborhood. We must be the only ones who leave our house.
@RickMcNS@Stephanie5775@hfxtraffic And no, the world won’t implode. Persons with disabilities face these challenges EVERY single day and the world goes on because most people don’t care
@RickMcNS@Stephanie5775@hfxtraffic And one solution was to knock on the door, which assumes the person could get to the door. Try spending a week navigating the city in a chair with no support and maybe you will see things differently
@RickMcNS@Stephanie5775@hfxtraffic A disability isn’t life changing? How long should a person in a wheelchair wait? Some trucks park all day. You are making the assumption it is a quick stop.
@MccuaigSteve@hfxtraffic Safe to assume you or your child aren’t physically disabled? It isn’t so easy to get around illegally parked vehicles blocking sidewalks when you use a wheelchair for mobility
@hfxtraffic I often wonder how people posting this shit would deal riding across Canada in a chuck wagon looking for their next meal and a place to settle. Walk around the truck and move on.
@RickMcNS@hfxtraffic You don’t expect people to use logic before taking a picture do you? That truck could’ve been there for two minutes and someone out there is going to make a big deal of it instead of just walking around it or waiting a few seconds
@GilliganS76@JillRafuse@hfxtraffic I don’t think a person should have to. I walk a lot with my daughter in her all terrain wheelchair and I don’t know why it should be on a pedestrian to knock on a door to ask someone to move an illegally parked vehicle.
@maayanziv In 2023 in NS a strike by support staff (still paid poverty wages) meant kids with disabilities were kicked out of school for 6 weeks and no one stood up for them. It is all linked. The population in general doesn’t value persons with disabilities 💔
@maayanziv It starts at the daycare level, and at least in my province of NS inclusive daycare is more of a speaking point than a reality. When kids aren’t raised in inclusive environments they don’t understand, appreciate or have empathy for the challenges faced by others.
I’ve just been notified that a passenger with a disability was handled without proper care or consent on a flight and is now in hospital.
People ask me why it’s so important to advocate for #RightsOnFlights. This is why.
@davemerk1@yegwave Agreed. The worst are the young ladies who take pictures of themselves in the changing room mirrors ( which face the showers and toilets). The staff say to let them know, but you can’t run out when you aren’t dressed.
