@Heffomite @JoshEberley Draft nerd twitter hated on Bailey because he wasn’t very efficient and was a complete black hole on offense. AJ has his flaws but is way bigger/stronger/more athletic and an awesome playmaker by 6’9 freshman wing standards

@thatsea6 @ball_truther @JoshEberley “Tough shot maker” is basically the worst sort of player unless you are like, KD level good at it. Otherwise it just means inefficient chucker.

@ball_truther @Heffomite @JoshEberley I don’t really think that was the case in college but he definitely did settle for a lot of tough jumpers but he was a tough shot maker. But to keep it 100 I have hardly caught any jazz games this year so if you speaking off this szn I can’t really tell you that your wrong lol

@JoshEberley All true, but that’s the reason why IMO. Peterson and Boozer have warts too, but I think both also have higher upside and I would take them 1 and 2 personally.

I mean, nah. Dybantsa has looked significantly better than Bailey did a year ago. (Bailey still might be real good as a side note.)

@themarinadove It’s more than that. The Bene Gesserit essentially created the culture and myths thousands of years earlier, as they did on many planets, so that one day if a BG was in trouble they could manipulate it.

a good portion of Dune is frank herbert explicitly writing out Jessica’s thoughts about doing exactly this and her being aware the entire time she is putting on fremen culture as a costume to make her white son a messiah mostly out of pride and not love.
Rashanu🍉@FibroFogFig

This film is just plain appropriation and daylight robbery of West Asian and North African people's language and culture atp considering the cast. If you didn't know who this white lady is, you'd think it's just a photo of an indigenous Algerian woman.

Have a few friends who have been restructuring and bankruptcy lawyers at Kirkland for a few years now I never thought it was possible, but they legitimately have worse hours and work life balance than investment bankers Talking around the clock work past midnights, weekends, and holidays. Very little room for personal life At some point, the money is not even worth it anymore

BREAKING: Law firm Kirkland is defying the private equity slowdown with a record $11.1 million partner pay for 2025. Kirkland became the first law firm to break $10 billion in annual revenues last year, advising on more than $800 billion of M&A deals in 2025.

@JoshEberley It’s great, but I would have it fifth or sixth this century. I saw Infernal Affairs first and the remake aspect knocked it down for me a bit.

Martin Sheen was originally contracted for only four episodes of The West Wing (1999). President Bartlet was meant to be a background figure, but Sheen’s charisma made him the show's undisputed lead.

this is so true. Conan O'Brien is the most thoughtful of "comics." but wisecracks & humor fade into invisibility when we see the so-small, yet monumental homes of ancestors. I did not ever have this experience--(ancestors from Ireland, Hungary & Germany)--but feel as O'Brien did. especially, watching "Train Dreams"--a film with much silence. our ancestors who were manual laborers through entire lives from childhood to death; our grandparents & great-grandparents who not only never wrote a book or a story but were educated, had not the luxury of language. "they survived."
CONSEQUENCE@consequence

Conan O'Brien says he has "incredible empathy for people who have immigrated to another country" after traveling to Ireland and seeing his great-grandfather lived. "I went back to Ireland and I [saw] a great genealogist who said, 'I found where your great-grandfather’s home was.' The home is gone, but he found the little spot where he lived, near the Galbally Mountains. He said, 'I’ll go there and show it to you,' and I said, 'We’ll do it on camera.' "I was expecting to have these jokes loaded up; we had props and funny things we were going to do... But I got there, and I did not expect this because I'm not someone who wears my emotions on my sleeve, but I got emotional. It was very powerful. "This was a very small plot of land. He was a tenant farmer, so it wasn't his. He didn't have money, and he needed to move on because it wasn't working; probably not enough to eat, couldn't sustain. So, he left and went to America, and here I am a couple of generations later. "What's amazing to me is when you have that experience and you stand there, I have incredible empathy for people who have immigrated to another country. It takes an entire lifetime to go to a country where, often, people don't speak the language. They have to spend their entire lives just getting things started for the next generation; it's a whole lifetime that you're feeding into this process. "I was just thinking about this guy, whom I'll never meet, who had to do that. I think I was overcome by the fact that there's a lot of sadness in that story, and in a lot of these stories. People leave not because they think, 'Hey, I just want to go have fun in America.' They leave because they have to." (via Jimmy Kimmel Live)

@patmart100 @_Godotto @facetedcarapace It’s more like Michael Jackson leaving the J5 and becoming the dominant pop star of an era. Hard to exaggerate how big Williams was in the UK in the late 90’s to early 2000’s. If you want to shock a Brit, tell them (honestly) that you’ve never heard the song Angels.

A lot of British pop and rock music makes it to the United States but it's really funny when something huge in the UK has zero name recognition here and they're like "How do you Yanks not know 'One Last Snog for Santa' by Gary Heath and the Hempstead Fudge!? '

An under-told story: the returns to the insane high school extracurricular arms race would diminish significantly if the SAT and ACT would make the test harder so that there wasn’t a giant blob of people with ~2400 or ~36 scores.
Brad Carson@bradrcarson

As a former uni prez...Best higher ed reform no one talks about: raise the ceiling on standardized tests - a lot! Too many top students max out, then compete on expensive pseudo-extracurriculars instead of actual merit. Wider score distribution fixes this.
