To see a critically endangered White-headed Vulture is always a bonus but to see a flock of 7 is a true rarity. With adults and juveniles together this must have been a family group.

@WG_RumblePants Great statue of Eddie Gilbert @ Allan Border Field in Brisbane. Eddie is recognised and acknowledged now, much more than when he was alive. There are stories about The Don missing matches so he didn’t have to face him. Eddie did get Bradman for a duck 🦆 in the Sheffield Shield

The players did brilliantly but their team got hammered Imagine a six-Test series between two teams. One of the two teams had three of the five most successful batsmen in the series. This same team scored twice as many centuries as the other team (4 as againt two). One of its batsmen was was the only one to the get two hundreds in the series. The two most successful bowlers of the series were also from this team. In fact, these two bowlers were the only two who got more than 25 wickets in the series. The team's also claimed five of the seven wicket hauls in the series. In spite of all this, this team lost the series, in fact, got battered 5-1! This was England's tour of Australia in 1978-79. If you look at the top perforners of the series, one would be forgiven for thinking that Australia dominated the series. Six centuries were scored in six Tests: Graham Yallop scored 2, Kim Hughes and Graeme Wood one each. England had one each from David Gower and Derek Randall. Only five batsmen got more than 300 runs in the series. Of these three were Australians - Yallop, Hughes and Wood. Gower and Randall topped 300 for England, and Gower was the only batsman to get past 400 runs in the series with 420, but Yallop was not too far behind with 391. Rodney Hogg got 40 wickets, Alan Hurst got 25, while for England Ian Botham and Geoff Miller got 23 each. Hogg for 5 Five-fors, Hurst 1 and Jim Higgs 1, for England only Bob Willis and Miller had one apiece. Australia had the top performers in the series, but England were just far more consistent and notably, hardy any failures. Cricket is a team sport is a statement that is repeated often. But no series reflected it as deeply as this one. Australia had the individuals. England had the team. And a captain with a degree in people! During India’s 1986 tour of England, Gooch took a brilliant catch to dismiss Maninder Singh off the bowling of Graham Dilley in the Leeds Test. Bruce French was the wicketkeeper in that match. The remarkable catch later featured in promotional advertisements for the Nehru Cup football tournament held in India in 1989.
