If I get an AI-generated email response from say AT&T I don't really mind, it's probably better than what I was getting before. But if I get one from someone with whom I value the relationship I'm going to be put off -- not sure if this is generalizable but I think it might be.

@TheStalwart It may even be better if US companies could profit by unrestricted selling to Chinese AI companies. Win/win? The US does not currently win at all if China wins the AI race.

I could see a world where American cloud companies do good business serving Chinese open source models to American enterprises. This might even be the best outcome for investors. But in that world, I would expect a less maniacal drive to keep building out more at any price.

@DavidSacks China also had to wean off advanced chips from the rest of the world and work towards building their own. They're less and less reliant on US/Korean/Taiwanese semis at this point. This is to the world's disadvantage if the non-Chinese AI trade crumbles.

This is concerning. For the first time, a Chinese model Kimi K3 has taken #1 on the Frontend Code Arena and is scoring at or near the frontier on other benchmarks. Meanwhile America is tying itself in knots: politicians and bureaucrats are banning new data centers, piling on state regulations, and pushing for new federal agencies to pre-approve frontier models. This is how you lose the AI race. The rest of the world won’t play by our rules if we bog ourselves down. Permissionless innovation is how America won the internet and became the technological envy of the world. We can do it again with AI -- while addressing risks in a targeted way -- or we’ll watch our lead evaporate.
