This year’s investments in the livestock sector are about one thing: putting more money into the pockets of our farmers.
The Government has allocated KSh 3.3 billion for pastoral resilience to help communities cope with climate shocks and build sustainable livelihoods.
KSh 1.3 billion has been committed to livestock commercialization to support farmers in producing for the market and increasing incomes.
A further KSh 5 billion is supporting over 300,000 pastoralist farmers in 21 ASAL counties through cooperatives and better market access.
In the dairy sector, the Government is finalizing the acquisition of 650 milk coolers and value addition equipment to reduce losses and improve milk quality.
The goal is simple: a more resilient and profitable livestock sector for farmers.

There is no over supply of hass fruit. There is actually and under supply. In the past 2 years only i have done two factories with a combined 15 tonnes per hour capacity
I’m commissioning another one in 3 months with 10t /hr capacity. Do you think your farm can supply 10t/hr?
Note that the plant runs two shifts ( 16 hours a day ) so 160 tonnes a day.

I lost my ability to consume dairy in the US. I used to spend winters in Miami before covid and one year I came back to Finland and could not digest even a drop of milk in coffee anymore. It was like immediate food poisoning level and throwing up within minutes of having even a small amount.
Doctors tested everything extensively and never found a definitive cause. Final conclusion was that American food somehow nuked my gut bacteria to the point where my body just forgot how to process dairy. I spent 30 years eating Finnish dairy products, went to Miami for a few months and came back broken.
I have gained some of it back and can handle small amounts of cheese every now and then but anything more and the vomiting symptoms are right back. Still cannot do regular milk or cream.
The US literally changed my biology. 100% understand if elite athletes don’t want to deal with whatever they put in the food there.

Burundi is a cautionary tale for Kenya's regions like Meru. Like Burundi, Meru is incredibly fertile and blessed with famously industrious farmers, yet it risks falling into the same trap.
By focusing solely on growing and shipping raw crops out of the county, Meru remains trapped in volatile income cycles dictated by shifting global market prices. True wealth will remain unlocked until the region transitions toward agro-processing. Meru needs to attract and establish factories to package and brand its tea, process macadamia oil, and manufacture cosmetics from local herbs. The revenue generated from these factories could then be reinvested into education, tech, and service industries.
Hard work and fertile soil are excellent foundations, but true wealth requires leverage, and that only comes through industrialisation, value addition, and economic diversification.

Burundi is a perfect example of why hard work in agriculture can only feed you well but never make you wealthy. It is a stepping stone into other high value engagements and never a destiny for wealth creation.
