Was planning to go to the theater but here's no major movie opening this weekend. Everyone's asleep at the wheel. Hollywood used to open bangers in May.

If I am @Lionsgate I don't just make a @michaelmovie sequel, I make JACKSON in 2028 and then back a Brinks truck up and make JANET in 2030 with Michael featured heavily in that as well.

@sylabdul Sorry Chap but Disney is not happy with The Devil's $8.2M. The Mickey Mouse company would rather see The Devil at $10M. $8.2M shows signs of lack of demand for The Devil.

Love me some Colman Domingo, but this is easily one of, if not his weakest performances to date. Yeah, he’s great at playing an abusive dad, but his Joe Jackson was so cartoonish and one-dimensional that it felt more like an exaggerated caricature than an actual person Please, just don’t put Colman in any awards conversation at all for this movie. He deserves far better material than what he was given here. And honestly, because of that, I really think Nia Long and Miles Teller were kind of better than him in this one 🤷

some of the worst storytelling you’ll see in a recent film mixed with the greatest songs of all time. feels like it was written for people the second screen experience. the movie knows that you’ll accept this, i would if i didn’t care about movies and these songs.

Calling it a “well-made biopic” doesn’t magically make it one. Michael is the same assembly-line music biopic formula with shinier dance numbers, no perspective, no real directorial identity, no writing worth remembering. It’s just a Wikipedia summary with a budget. People aren’t “too cool” for it, they just expect more than watching highlight reels stitched together for 2 hours. If the only praise your movie gets is “the concert scenes were good,” that says everything 🤷
𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝘁@Itssan17

We’ve really reached a point where people hype up mid directors for recycling the same “save the CGI creature” plot for the 10th time, but act too cool for a well-made biopic that’s actually clearing. The bias on this bird app is wild.

@IAMNJERA @letterboxd Miss, I question your mental health. Much of what you wrote is a load of bollocks & weirdly not about the Michael Jackson movie. Are you reviewing another movie, mixing movies up?. Are you ok, Ma'am?

It seems that the audience watching @michaelmovie is speaking loudly already in both audience ratings and ticket sales headed into the weekend. Now to see how much that WOM spreads and how high it can go. At the least, will smash the opening weekend record for a musical biopic.

The MICHAEL people calling me slurs in my mentions are giving the "You're a fake Puerto Rican" JLo stans from last year a run for their money. Two movies I leaned more positive than negative on, but crazy stans can't help themselves when you dare have your critiques/analysis.

@TheRochaSays The studios are hoping that a public pressure campaign with box office success will convince Mrs Ross to allow her image to be used again in a later cut that couldl be released in October. The added scenes would add significant depth to the story & script.

The actress who played Diana Ross in the ‘Michael’ movie posted this message about her scenes being cut. Diana was a HUGE part of Michael’s life from when he was a kid to the end of his life. I’d love to know what the “legal considerations” were that kept her out of the film. 🤔

@TheRochaSays I can confirm this is more then "alleged", other characters and actors were effected. This is getting leaked for a reason. Agents and Studios are not happy with Mrs Ross

@TheRochaSays This thread explains why much of the late 70s stuff with other Characters (Andy Warhol, Liza Minnell) wete cut from the film. Mrs Ross pulled the rug out from under Lionsgate, Universal & The Production team at the last minute. It's getting leaked. x.com/i/status/20473…

I’m 100% convinced that Rock with You was apart of the Studio 54 scenes and because of Diana Ross it got cut along with all of her other scenes like the Wiz Fuck her

Even if the Michael Jackson movie gets a sequel, who exactly is the movie for if it’s just covering most of the legal problems he faced after the previous film, which already focuses heavily on his musical success? It’s like if Damien Chazelle made a sequel to La La Land, but instead of continuing as a musical, it shifts into legal disputes and industry fallout, stripping away the musical elements entirely. At that point, it’s not really building on what made the previous film work, it’s just changing genres and tone in a way that feels disconnected from its core appeal. I know it might not be entirely fair to compare a real-life story to a fictional one, but the point still stands. If a sequel abandons the original’s central identity and audience expectations, it risks feeling like it belongs to a completely different film rather than a continuation. At best, those allegations could be acknowledged without becoming the entire focus of the narrative, but once a story pivots that heavily, the tone and purpose fundamentally shift, and not always in a way that serves the audience the original film was built for. In short, I’m simply questioning whether it still “fits” as a sequel or if it becomes something else entirely. If they make it, is it really a sequel that the audience actually wants to see?? 🤷🤔

Jaafar Jackson is tremendous in MICHAEL, truly making you forget he isn’t the real thing. An off-the-charts performance. The rest of the movie is about as generic as you can get. Fans will love the musical performances, but there’s sadly no humanity behind them.

The HoloFiles - Movie/TV News & Reviews
MICHAEL is an extraordinarily sanitized, overly audience-friendly music biopic that makes Bohemian Rhapsody look like a complex, nuanced character study. With the dramatic depth of a Wikipedia article, the film introduces but fails to even remotely explore fascinating aspects of Michael Jackson’s life, including his loneliness, body image issues, and fixation on childhood. The story never offers an understanding of what drives Michael Jackson to become the King of Pop and have a career beyond his family, and is far more interested in playing it safe and playing the hits (which are superbly recreated). Jafaar Jackson bears an uncanny resemblance to MJ and nails the body language and voice of the King of Pop, but he’s given disappointing little dramatic work to do by a screenplay that paints him as an infallible protagonist. An excellent impersonation from Jafaar and iconic songs can’t save this biopic from feeling like the product of a creative team terrified to approach even the most vulnerable or difficult aspects of its complex lead character’s life.
