Under the Academy new rules, Cannes winner 'Fjord' joins Berlin winner 'Yellow Letters' and Sundance winner 'Shame and Money' as automatically eligible for entry into the International Feature Film Oscar race without the need for a country to submit them. #Cannes #Oscars

@howatdk @TheThirdNiceGuy Still can't even say the words "I was wrong" Think about that for a moment. You STILL can't say "Oops, I got this wrong" That is what's unhealthy. Your ego simply won't allow you to go "I was wrong. I made a mistake".

There’s several establishing shots of a felled tree he’s standing on. This is the problem now, you guys are going to start making up bullshit to act smug which will then generate a backlash against people criticising the film.

There’s an entire sequence in THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU where Mando falls into a trap and sinks into a large pool of water, 50 or 100 feet down. He swims to the surface…and then just magically stands up. And runs around in the now ankle-deep water fighting monsters.

@TheRealMr_Chaos @TheThirdNiceGuy Getting so heated that you need to reply to someone multiple times isn’t healthy. The sequence sucks. But you can like it! Enjoy it man! It’s not that deep. Take a breather and treat people on the internet like they’re humans.

@howatdk @TheThirdNiceGuy It is when you stomp out here, say false things, knowing that your JOB is to give reviews of films. Would you be happy if your doctor got wrong something on your chart and then went "Well... I won't admit I was wrong but hey, you do you?" Just admit you fucked up.

a live action leftist looney tunes bursting at the seams with color & creativity so bold & bright to remind you it’s not just blockbusters that demand to be seen on the big screen. equal parts hysterical, brutally honest, & infectiously hopeful for the future. absolutely adored.

‘OBSESSION’ may become one of the only films in history to earn $100M+ on a budget of less than $1M. The film is expected to earn more this weekend than it did in its opening weekend, a rare feat.

The only saving grace is Ludwig Göransson’s hypnotic score. Even in a whiff of a movie, Ludwig just can’t miss.

THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU may delight fans of the show, but this glorified TV movie really didn’t work for me. It’s yet another ‘go fetch’ episode of the show, filled with dull action and little-to-no emotional stakes. Empty, small, and worst of all - completely forgettable.

OBSESSION is so, so good. Inde Navarrette delivers the sort of performance you can’t overhype. She’s the real deal, and makes every creepy moment deeply, painfully real. The movie fully commits to its absurd premise and sees the wish through to the very end. Just stellar.

Paul Rudd is tremendous, capturing the exasperation perfectly without losing any authenticity. And Nick Jonas plays a pop star well (imagine that) It never takes itself too seriously, keeping the story wisely small-scale, and more personal. A heartfelt, effortless crowdpleaser.

POWER BALLAD is another charmer from John Carney. A movie about a dad’s desperation to hold on to dreams of making it big, and wanting the validation that his life meant something. Big heart, good music, and an ending that leaves you soaring.

@Nemo19089 @Cade_Onder The source is me and fellow critics who were told by Disney and affiliates that they would not receive screenings, even though Disney typically screens their films for us. So yes, screenings are happening, but scaled back.

@Cade_Onder @howatdk I've seen screening information for 10 major cities with a few more om areas that I'm not privy to, so unless he elaborates I see no validity to the tweet. International screenings may be different

Disney has decided not to screen THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU for critics in some major cities across the country. It’s disappointing to see such a lack of confidence in a Star Wars film. I’m still hoping for the best.

TANGLES is an expressionistic adaptation of Sarah Leavitt’s profoundly personal graphic novel, exploring her queer love life, aspirations to be a professional illustrator, relationship with her parents, and her mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Leah Nelson’s simple but effective black-and-white animation and direction bring a grounded emotional honesty to the adult material, aided further by heartfelt voice performances from Abby Jacobson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Bryan Cranston. Seth Rogen can feel a bit distracting at times, though his larger-than-life energy ultimately suits the character he’s playing. This is the kind of mature, emotionally evocative animated storytelling with a major Hollywood cast that we desperately need more of.
