@papa_cole45 @AngryVorosM @ajflax Crews 100% was going to be taken 1, but I believe his demands and reluctance to play in Pittsburgh played a role. Also the hitter over pitcher mentality played a role. Langford was awesome, but was never considered up with the other 2 until he tore apart the minors.

@AngryVorosM @ajflax @HiFlyinRyan He was not that obvious. Langford was having a ridiculous season and Crews was supposed to be generational. If anything the reason Crews wasn’t de facto number 1 was his signing bonus demands.

Something very interesting has happened with 2023 draft revisionism, which is that everyone has forgotten Skenes was not the consensus #1 guy. He took a huge leap as a pro. All the pre-draft rumors had the Pirates looking at Langford or Crews.

Baseball America ranked Dylan Crews ahead of Paul Skenes in the 2023 Draft. One of those guys couldn’t make the roster of a rebuilding team and the other is the reigning Cy Young Award winner and one of the best young pitchers ever. I think they need to answer for that.

@ajflax Not trying to pull revisionist history or anything, but I feel like the community as a whole hyped up Skenes as the best pitching prospect since Strasburg. Crews was getting, “best college bat since Adley Rutschman”. Skenes carried more hype, but Crews was safer as a hitter

@GRITXIIGeek @11point7 Fair. He does get walked a ton. I still see a lot of guys with comparable PA with 3-5 more homers. 80 grade power just feels like it’s something they’ve made nearly unobtainable. If Caglianone wasn’t given 80, I can’t see anyone getting it
