Something very interesting has happened with 2023 draft revisionism, which is that everyone has forgotten Skenes was not the consensus #1 guy. He took a huge leap as a pro. All the pre-draft rumors had the Pirates looking at Langford or Crews.

Baseball America ranked Dylan Crews ahead of Paul Skenes in the 2023 Draft. One of those guys couldn’t make the roster of a rebuilding team and the other is the reigning Cy Young Award winner and one of the best young pitchers ever. I think they need to answer for that.

@shoewizard59 DeLauter has the distinction of not yet playing in a MLB regular season game, but he did appear in the playoffs for the Guardians (he went 1 for 6). Has been hurt a whole lot in his career. I loved him coming out of the draft, except he got hurt his draft year.

Chase DeLauter looks impressive. He just went down to the bottom inside corner of the strike and ripped a 98.2 MPH fastball from Jontahn Loaisiga out to RF for his 2nd HR of game. Sure, down and in to lefties can be nitro zone...but that was a tough pitch to line out of here.

@PopperPeter55 @usmntaut Problem is he's legitimately one of our better keepers under 28. Right now I'm hoping for more development from Brady. He seems like the best combo of both youth and current ability. But I'd take a sudden jump in ability from Schulte or Celentano too.

I don’t think either of them should make the World Cup roster but Patrick Schulte gets a final chance to impress and you’d have to think this closes the door on Roman Celentano (at least it should).

@notgaetti It's worth noting that 2020 was something of a catastrophe for college players drafted in 2019 or high school players drafted in 2018. Yes there are some very good players from those drafts, but it would be silly to ignore what a setback something like that could be.

I remember when the Mets were getting eviscerated for letting Kelenic go to Seattle in the Cano/Diaz trade back in 2018.
