Former USMNT striker Chris Wondolowski, who’s the record goalscorer in MLS with 171 goals over 16 years, was inducted to the National Soccer Hall of Fame this weekend.
He gave an emotional speech afterwards, thanking everyone especially his parents who made a lot of sacrifices for him. ♥️
“I mean I have four little ones now. I'm starting to realize the sacrifices it took, and starting to also appreciate the sacrifices that my mom and dad made for me and for my brothers,” Wondolowski said.
“You know you're going to soccer tournaments, and that becomes your spring break, that is your family vacation.
“Going to some of these tournaments and experiencing some of those wonderful experiences, some interesting, sometimes it might be Bakersfield or some other interesting places that you're able to spend those nights.
“But I've also learned that 8am games are my personal nemesis, because trying to get your kid out of the door at 6am, shoving an Eggo waffle maybe down their throat as they go down and driving an hour to a game in the middle of nowhere to go watch.
“That being said, I wouldn't change it for the world. I love every second of it. And so, again, mom and dad thank you. It means the world, and I wouldn't have done it without you guys. So thank you.”
Wondolowski also thanked his former coaches, especially Frank Yallop.
“He gave me the confidence. I was very concerned. I didn't want to be the guy that made the mistake. I didn't want to be the one that messed up early in my career,” the former striker said.
“I wanted to just fit in. Just be good and Frank Yallop finally told me this. He said, ‘You’re here for a reason. You'll make more good plays than bad plays, and if you make a bad play, go and try to bust your butt and try to win it back.’
“And I needed that at that moment, and it was a confidence, a belief, and a love that he had, and it helped me grow.
“It gave me those wings that I need and to not worry about every single play, every single touch. If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying to do things. You’re not trying to push the envelope.”
Wondolowski scored 11 goals in 35 games for the USMNT— playing in the 2013 Gold Cup, 2014 World Cup, and 2016 Copa América Centenario.
Since retirement, he works as Head of U-23 Individual Development Programming for San Jose Earthquakes.
The former striker also works with stakeholders for Earhquakes II/The Town FC and the Earthquakes Academy to accelerate the development of the pipeline’s most high-potential players.
He comes from a humble background. Wondolowski wasn’t a part of any fancy academies. He played college soccer at Chico State Wildcats and only turned professional at 22— after he graduated.
Now, the former striker is making sure the young kids in Bay Area get top level coaching and go on to be elite players. 👏🏾

I am still struggling to process the level of incompetence from Inter Miami last night.
To go up 3-0 on your biggest rival, in your home stadium, in front of a sold-out crowd for Messi’s 100th appearance, and then LOSE?
It was a total embarrassment. They had Orlanndo buried at the 33rd minute. And instead of game management, they colapsed.
That’s 4 matches at Nu Stadium now. ZERO wins. Three straight ties were frustrating enough, but a 4-3 loss from 3-0 up is a slap in the face to every fan who showed up.
Heart is the real issue with this team. This group needs to do something quick!

A young Turkish woman married the man who threw acid on her face, leaving her permanently disfigured and partially blind.
Berfin Özek was only 18 when her ex-boyfriend attacked her after their relationship ended. Before throwing the acid, he told her: “If I can’t have you, no one can.”
The attack burned her face and chest, destroyed one of her eyes, and left her with serious vision problems in the other.
She filed a complaint against him, and he was sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison. But while he was locked up, he sent her love letters and begged for forgiveness.
After he was released early in 2021, he proposed to her. She accepted and married him.

@DiceElDani I repeat, football is football, we saw this in Tottenham, Real..... what made anyone think cause he came to MLS that somehow football wouldn't be football, we bought a name and here we are. If you pay for a car, you expect it to drive.

🚨 OUT AGAIN!!
Both Sergio Reguilón and Mateo Silvetti are OUT for tomorrow night’s Florida Derby vs. Orlando City.
Reguilón’s season is struggling to get off the ground with only 153 minutes across 3 matches. Did Inter Miami make a mistake with this signing?
Silvetti is still rehabbing, which puts the creative pressure on the midfield returnees (Segovia and Bright). Will Suarez get the start or will Hoyos shift back to Allende?
