In a real statistical oddity, the Pirates have played 19 games (most in MLB) this year against teams currently above .500, and are in last place with an overall winning record.

@lunchmade I have a challenge for you, Todd. Post a picture of a card or pack that I *don’t* love. So far you’re failing miserably.

Brandon Lowe is the first Pirates player in MLB history with a box score line of 1-for-1 with 4 walks and at least 3 runs scored. It’s been done a few dozens times by guys other teams.

Kyle Schwarber is the 13th Phillie in history to strike out 5 times in a game. Odds are pretty good he'll eventually become the first guy to do it twice. Chart, of course, from @baseball_ref

1984 Topps hanging out with 1984 O-Pee-Chee Tim Raines autographs This card design, uniform and subject is absolutely lava. It’s one of my all-time favorites.

@obxleatherman I think Indians also had a long losing streak to start that season? Maybe 7 or 9 games?

Fun fact: the 1988 Braves also lost 10 in a row to begin the season, but because the Orioles were so bad, no one seems to remember.
FunBaseballFacts@FunBaseballFact

Today in 1988: the #Orioles lost their 21st straight game to start the season. It set an #MLB record for the worst start to a season, and an American League record for consecutive losses at any time in a season. They ended the year with a 54-107 record, 34.5 games out of first.

Munetaka Murakami now has 45 strikeouts in 30 games, which for a full 162 games equates to 743 strikeouts in a season. Ok, it’s actually 243, but that’s still a lot.

Don Mattingly being the Phillies' manager is weird enough. Reporting to his own son as GM is next-level weird.

If you want to win a World Series, avoid Don Mattingly. Player Yankees: 1982-1995 (Yankees won it in 1981 and 1996.) Manager Dodgers: 2011-2015 Marlins: 2016-2022 Bench Coach Blue Jays: 2023-2025 Phillies: 2026-? (First WS appearance in 2025)

Brayan Bello’s horrific outing tonight is the 11th time in Red Sox history a single pitcher has given up 5+ homers in a game.

Wow I am so wrong. Garrett Hampson did it just last year and lots of others have too.

Robinson Cano had a year in which he played 9+ games for 3 different teams, and hit below .200 for each team. I have to believe he’s the only non-pitcher to do that.

@LuisBauza @TheBeatwriter I think this is correct. In English, the “-“ definitely means “for” or “of”. In Spanish, I gather it means “to”. So in English, it’s “hits in 7 of 9” and in Spanish it’s “9 converted to 7”.

Creo yo 😂
