@SetantaADV @thestinkeye Army O-3 was supposed to transfer to my directorate. J1 guy says it got turned off. I ask why, he doesn't know but will look into it. Comes back a few days with this video. Army mustn't like when you get a helo for training, then do this and post it. youtu.be/OvhdA-x1wRQ?si…

Don’t even get me started! I was an NCO and had assumption of command orders once. Someone ended up in jail late at night and I get the call for the PD. “Do I have to come in now?” “Yes sir, you do.” “Well, he got himself in this mess. He’s not going anywhere. I’ll be there tomorrow.” Just to give you an idea how stupid Joe can be, we had been at NTC in California for a month. Spent time on live fire ranges with tanks, artillery, everything. We finish up and fly home. A couple of weeks later, this weirdo in the barracks room next to me wants to do show and tell while we are partying. Dude says “Check this out.”, and pulls a rusty, fired, 155mm artillery round out of his wall locker! “WTF did you get that???” “At NTC.” This stupid MFer hid this thing in his duffel bag, checked it in on a commercial aircraft, and flew all the way from California to Georgia with it underneath us on a chartered commercial 747. That’s the Army for ya!

@thestinkeye @SetantaADV Think how long the module titled "Stupid things your people might do while you're CO" could be at the Commander's course. I imagined what things I might deal with as CO, I wasn't close. And that's considering I wasn't even an Army CO!!!!!

@SetantaADV Everyone who has ever been in any sort of leadership position in any military are doing this while muttering some version of, “WTF, Petty Officer Jones… can you to five minutes without creating an international incident?!?”

@SureFireSearle @thestinkeye Project Fury. Run by USMC when I tried to get involved. Project nearly died with mishap at China Lake. In 2010, CSAF said USAF would NEVER be in LFW business, but we did train Aghans in Tucano at Moody AFB. Then, out of the blue, the OA-1 selected and forced on AFSOC 20yr late.

@thestinkeye dude did you see they did a small test with something they called an OV-10G - they were remand D models - supporting JSOC units in Iraq? They built 2 of em. They gave em the EO/IR turrets and designators and made em APKWS shooters - did you see that?

Restart the A10 and OV10 production lines - build new tooling if you have to. Also, sell OV10s on the civilian market. Don't make changes beyond avionics; just build 10,000 of each.
Supersonic Redhead🛫@Supersonic_Red

The A-10 Isn’t the Problem. The Strategy Is. Extending the A-10 Thunderbolt II to 2030 is being sold as a decisive move. It’s not. It’s another short-term patch on a long-term problem the Pentagon refuses to solve. Let’s be clear. This is not a four-year decision. It’s barely three and a half. In defense planning terms, that is nothing. You cannot stabilize a force, sustain an industrial base, or build a transition strategy on timelines this short. And yet, here we are. Again. The A-10 keeps surviving because reality keeps winning. When conditions degrade, when troops are in contact, when precision and presence matter more than theory, the Warthog shows up and does exactly what it was built to do. That hasn’t changed. What has changed is how we manage it. This cycle of incremental extensions is not strategy. It is institutional indecision. Every time leadership pushes the timeline out a few years, it sends a ripple through the entire system. Maintenance units cannot plan. Suppliers hesitate to invest. Training pipelines stall. Pilots and maintainers start looking for stability somewhere else. That is how you hollow out capability without ever formally retiring it. The cost is not just financial. It is operational. Sustaining a platform like the A-10 requires consistency. Parts production, depot maintenance, training throughput, and operational doctrine all depend on a clear and credible timeline. When that timeline keeps shifting in small increments, efficiency collapses. You spend more money to get less readiness, all while pretending you are buying flexibility. You are not. You are buying uncertainty. If the Department of Defense believes the A-10 still fills a critical role, then commit to it properly. Set a horizon that actually means something. 2040 is a reasonable anchor. It gives the force room to breathe, allows industry to stabilize, and creates space to develop a real replacement instead of a theoretical one. And if something better arrives sooner, then retire the A-10 on your terms, not in reaction to the next crisis. That is what strategy looks like. Right now, we are asking a combat-proven platform to carry ongoing operational demand while denying it the structural support required to do so efficiently. That is not modernization. That is drift. The A-10 is not the problem. It has never been the problem. The problem is a system that cannot decide whether it wants to replace it, sustain it, or simply keep kicking the decision down the road. Extending to 2030 does not resolve that tension. It prolongs it. At some point, leadership has to stop managing this aircraft in election cycles and start managing it as a capability. Because the battlefield is not waiting for us to make up our minds.

@aincomeinvestor Once your assets start growing to a point where you see real progress, your desire to derail that decreases drastically. 10% growth on $200k is $20k, but it's $50k on 500k...so you start measuring large purchases against opportunity cost of spending those $$$.

@MCCCANM Al Dhafra was WAY better when we lived in the high rise on the water! It was '93/'94 when they asked me to design the sidewalk/compound layout on base (former C.E. background), I commented why waste money putting concrete down when we're out of here soon. Man, were we wrong!

Making the rounds in aviation circle about taxiing at ORD. I know the guy that made this. He’s a KC-10 bro. Good guy. KC-10 folks have a history of making media. “Hot cause I’m deployed” came out 18 years ago. They guys got in trouble because a frequency was shown on the video…which was BS, it wasn’t secret or anything, they just wanted to flex. “Houck Daddy” was a dude we all liked & has happily been at Delta for a long time now. I don’t know what happened to Sims, but he did well last I heard, along with everyone else in the video (link in next comment(. memotune.com/song/17ouEs

@dlongenecker1 Investments and stocks are wealth GROWTH because, when done right, the investee gets the capital required to build a business and the investor gets a return on investment for taking the risk. Yes, risk, as no investment is guaranteed. That's far from distribution.

@dlongenecker1 Stock market, investments, and even pensions are NOT wealth distribution!!! Where do you even get that? Stocks and investments are using capital to enable opportunities that MAY result in a return on investment. That is not a redistribution. And pensions are wages deferred.

"Distribution of wealth" is not necessarily code for socialism. Wealth can be distributed many ways. One of the ways we already do this is through taxation. The stock market and investment and pension plans are also ways to distribute wealth. Scholarships and endowments for low income students are a way to distribute wealth and opportunity. Foreign aid, welfare, food stamps... I could go on.

@Turbinetraveler Absolutely not! G/A procedure is to set G/A pitch commanded by the Flight Director, gear up with positive rate, then at 1,000 AFE start to accelerate and clean up. That was dangerous lowering of the nose followed by an excessive over-correction then proper pitch attitude.

@Turbinetraveler That was a lot more dangerous than it looked. VERY late flare leads to bounce, but pilot doesn't immediately know he's still airborne. Several catastrophic mishaps have occurred due to de-rotation while still airborne, causing the aircraft to touch down again nosewheel first.

Believe it or not, this is one of the most controversial videos I ever uploaded here. I uploaded this with the joke of "this is why pilots don´t need to do Cardio at the gym: they do it in their work" - got some blocks (maybe I should resort to copy posts from reddit and steal content without credit, as the good guys do here... ) Anyway, this footage is real. It was filmed in 2017 by pilot Artur Kielak on a B-737 I don´t know the context of this - some on the comments even said this was staged and the jet was parked, or the video was sped up. I don´t know Regardless, one thing is for sure, Kielak is a real pilot and also performs aerobatics. So, he knows his business.
