Mostly aviation safety, with an appearance on Mayday - ACI: deviations include auto racing, true crime, and whatever I feel like.

New Zealand Air Force Bell UH-1 engine start. (Can any chopper expert explain why he is holding one of the rotors before he "cranks" it?) 📹helicopters_action

@sierrajeepr He made a mistake and admitted it. That´s just culture and proper airmanship. Kudos to the gent.

This was in 2019 (not sure of the location). But I do recall that the pilot´s comments himself popped up on reddit “While conducting retardant operations I descended below a ridge crossing altitude. This was NOT on purpose. I tunnel visioned the drop, and continued down. This was a little fill in spot and I was really focused on finishing the line. As I stated, this was NOT on purpose. We{crew} debriefed and talked about what happened, and of course, how to prevent this type of screw up. Thanks”

Fire Bomber Escapes Mountain Collision! ✈️This BAe 146 airtanker nearly struck a mountain ridge while attacking a wildfire near North Vancouver. The aircraft came alarmingly close to a rising terrain before climbing away safely

Kids don´t know how hard we had it back in the day... On today´s "Aviation in videogames" feature, we have Sega Genesis/Mega Drive´s "Super Thunder Blade", which was, to put it mildly, heavily inspired by the famous 1983 movie "Blue Thunder". This was pretty high-tech for its day, giving a very close feel to an arcade game on a home console. And you could use this "Cobra" inspired design to destroy Mi-24 Hinds on an urban setting. So it's pretty badass 📹World of Longplays

“Are you sure you can fly this?” “Sure, hold my beer.” A Bell 206 sightseeing flight lost control during takeoff at a Tatra PR event in Kopřivnice, Czechia, last May. No one was injured. Helicopter OK-HCE was operated by Heli Czech.

Three Wheels on My Wagon - CCTV at Lanzarote airport shows a tire (belonging to Ryanair) rolling its way down the apron. Authorities stated it did not affect operations, but it does make for a good meme😅. The "incident" occurred this weekend.

I've been trying to say this! Nobody listens! The B-17 was better at high altitude, which mattered because probability of intercept decreased dramatically between 20,000 and 30,000 feet. Even 25 and 30K is a major difference.
RoundSimbacca@RSimbacca

@heatloss1986 'B-17 sucks because it didn't fly high enough to prevent interception. Switching to the B-24 was better.' ...except if he had looked into this at all he would have discovered B-24s flew bombing missions at lower altitudes than the B-17.

Australian businessman Roger John Hussey tragically died after falling 30 meters into shallow surf while parasailing at Kata Beach in Phuket, Thailand. The 71-year-old from Perth plunged into the sea within seconds of takeoff due to an improperly secured harness and a fatal error involving the control ropes. The horrifying moments leading up to the drop were caught on camera by his wife, who was filming from the shoreline. Following the incident, the boat operator and crewman were arrested and charged with recklessness resulting in death.

@sjlyons50 @OnDisasters for the order. Fokker 70 could do it also and had a perfect engine. But Swissair pilots were against it, because they flew the Fokker 100. Also the losing company would go bust. The deal with BEA was that they hade to pay 1000 dollars fine for every minute duty time lost.

Likely the most overpowered Regional jet in history... Seen here, a CityJet British Aerospace Avro 146-RJ85 taking off from Bern-Belp, Switzerland When it first entered service in the 1980s, the 2nd generation new widebody, long-range jetliners were already using only two engines, but BAE persisted with the four engines for "extra performance" in mountainous environments in high, hot or poor grade airfields" In the end, unsurprisingly, it didn´t sell as expected, with operators buying twin-engine regional aircraft, both jet and prop. Regardless, with 387 aircraft produced, the Avro RJ/BAe 146 is the most successful British civil jet airliner programme 🎥 Berne Aviation HD

So now we’re expected to give destination weather briefings—with graphics—to Business Class passengers? 🤦🏼‍♂️ Maybe I’m showing my age, but I stopped announcing destination weather years ago when smartphones became universal. Every passenger already has a weather app with live radar, hourly forecasts, and alerts that’s probably more accurate than anything I can relay before departure. I’d rather spend that time briefing passengers on things they can’t get from their phone—ride quality, expected routing, delays. Sometimes it feels like we’re just reading the weather app out loud.

✈️ I travel a lot and I’ve witnessed @united Airlines rapidly improve over the last few years to the number one spot. I basically fly no one else now. This morning (my first class upgrade was comped), the Captain came out and gave a whole talk on the weather (before taking a vote to change our DC flight to Hawaii instead!!). Now that’s service!
