Above and beyond expectations While flying this week - I was met by a @united employee as I stepped off the plane. She said they had a car to drive me to my connecting gate. What?!?! They didn’t want me to have to take the train. I take the train every week - I’ll be fine - I was thinking. I went down a flight of stairs to a waiting car - a BMW model I had never seen. We drove around the tarmac through planes to the connecting gate. Fun, exciting, and special. I walked in the gate and sat down wondering - what just happened? I have status with United - I fly a lot but I’ve never had a car pick me up - that’s on another level. Not sure it will ever happen again but it was a nice treat and I felt special for a moment. Going above and beyond is not expected but always appreciated! When have you gone above and beyond for someone? The key to selling Is allowing your prospect the space to talk themselves into your product/service. It’s not giving more reasons why YOU think they should buy your product/service. As salespeople we can talk and drown out the best reasons to buy. What’s important to the prospect!!! We don’t know what’s important unless we ask a few strategic questions and give them space to answer. We focus on what WE think are the best reasons to buy while ignoring what the prospect is teaching us. Big mistake. Big. Huge! You get paid on commission - right? What the prospect is saying - or not saying - holds the keys to unlock the sale by asking the right questions. It’s that simple and that complicated. Get out of your own way!

Do you chase fireworks or the flame? Fireworks are fun to watch - exciting, bright, and colorful. But it’s a short-lived show. They remind me of big events in life. We talk about them, plan for them, and they are exciting. But once they are over we are left waiting on the next big thing. Then there is the flame. Consistency - like the pilot light of a gas stove. It might not be as exciting but it’s the every day moments where most of life is lived. There will always be fireworks to chase but give me a solid flame any day. Learning to live in the small moments makes the bigger ones that much better. Happy 4th with and may your fireworks lead to your flame! _________ I’m Hillary and I speak about transformation. In the shadow of the Empire State Building in New York, last week - I spoke to a room of clinicians, scientists, and patients. My speech was from the heart and I talked about how I’ve weathered the storm of glaucoma. The road has not been an easy one but I am navigating it by managing emotions, continuous learning, and moving forward one step at a time. I received an email from a researcher I met at the meeting - “Your story and your remarkable speech has truly inspired me to continue working toward effective neuroprotective therapy for you and all other glaucoma patients.” Thank you for your kind words - this is why I do what I do - and I will keep going! #StartWithThePatient

Last Saturday, I had the privilege of delivering the closing speech at @TGF_Glaucoma Think Tank Meeting in New York. Speaking to brilliant clinicians, scientists, and thought leaders in the glaucoma community was both intimidating and exciting - a perfect opportunity to drive change as a patient. Sharing my story as a glaucoma patient, including daily challenges and small victories, was powerful. As I said, “The more you speak it out loud, the more it doesn’t hold you prisoner.” I was honored to share the stage with Patricia Caulfield, a fellow advocate, patient, and accomplished artist whose paintings reflect her resilience. Together, we showed how we’ve adapted to life with glaucoma. As a speaker, consultant, and coach with over 20 years in medical device sales, I’m dedicated to amplifying patient voices, using my expertise to connect patients, doctors, and EyeCare companies. I never imagined I would become a face of glaucoma, but I’m proud to advocate for those who can’t. My mission is to encourage more scientific meetings to feature patients speaking alongside doctors, sharing stories and strategies for thriving with this disease. ‘Start with the Patient’ to transform EyeCare. Under his leadership, the NEI’s commitment to advancing eye care through innovative, efficient, and patient-centered systems is inspiring and impactful. I push when companies say they prioritize the patient How? I ask. We are patient-focused. And… That’s where it ends. •What is your company strategy to support patients? •What specifically are you doing as a patient-focused company? •How are you using the patient perspective in your marketing campaigns? •Do you invite patients to speak - to your reps, your training classes, and at lunches and dinner programs? •Do you use patients as paid consultants - other than focus groups where you may or may not give them a gift card for participation? I push back. If we don’t push back - nothing will change. Change is necessary, it’s due, and it’s time. Patient voices have value. Shift the paradigm with me to increase sales, improve patient outcomes, and move forward - or - be left behind. It’s never too late @Garyvaynerrchuk is always telling people it’s never too late. You can see it in their faces on the videos. That’s all they needed to hear. Their whole demeanor relaxes. Sometimes they start crying. There is an immediate relief. He didn’t say anything groundbreaking - all he did was believe in them. A glimmer of hope. It’s all they needed. Incredible day on the Hill yesterday with @NAEVRAdvocacy and @ThomasVJohnson1! We spoke about glaucoma from the perspective of the patient and clinician/researcher. Dr Johnson shared some of his incredible research on regrowing retinal ganglion cells. We also had the opportunity to meet with several Congressional offices to discuss the importance of continued funding for eye and vision research. Patients coupled with clinicians/researchers make magic happen. Separately we make a difference - together we create change!
