There's a lot to unpack here, but I'm super curious what everyone thinks about the full fat dairy section. They basically admit the science doesn't support avoiding full fat dairy, yet they go ahead and recommend it anyway. Anybody else perplexed by that?
The Wall Street Journal@WSJ

New nutrition guidance from the American Heart Association advises getting protein from plants rather than meat and choosing low-fat or fat-free dairy. The recommendations clash with recommendations from RFK Jr.’s Health department. 🔗 on.wsj.com/4bSiJaF

Hello Japanese X. While all my American friends are asleep, I have a question for you. What is the strangest topping you have seen on a pizza in Japan? This is a safe space, no judgement.

Yep, especially true as your fitness improves. My top end Z2 running is 6:30-6:45min/mi and 150-155 HR but I do my easy runs mostly at 7:40-8:00 pace and 130-135 HR. My top end Z2 biking is ~270W and 140HR but I do most easy bikes at 200-230W and 120-125 HR. If I were to start doing all of my easy runs, even at 7:00-7:15 pace, or all of my bikes at 240-255W, it would start negatively affecting my training very quickly. And that's not to say I don't do any work in that range or at the top of Zone 2, because I do. Every week I probably spend ~20% of my easy training in high Zone 2. Simply put, any additional benefit (and arguably, there isn’t much, if any) of doing all of your easy training in mid to high Z2 isn't worth it due to the disproportionately higher recovery cost versus Z1 work. In the short term, and on lower volume training, you can get away with doing mostly zone 2 but eventually, it'll catch up to you. If your goal is long-term consistency and improvement, you should focus on keeping the easy days truly easy. And a quick disclaimer before a bunch of you lose your mind in the comments: I'm not saying you should completely avoid zone 2. I'm just saying the majority of your easy work should be zone 1, with targeted Z2 “intervals” worked in when necessary. A good example of this that I have my clients do and that are in my programs is what I call "easy plus steady run". For me, “easy” is Z1 and “steady” is mainly high Z2. An example would be this: 20-25 mins easy + 15-20 mins steady And how that would look for me is over the first 20-25 mins I'd probably start off around 8:30 pace and steadily work it down to about 7:30 pace by the end of the easy portion. Then the steady portion I would work from probably 7:15 pace down to 6:30-6:45 pace depending on how I feel.

In my opinion, Zone 2 is actually high-intensity training. Shouldn't be the majority of your base work. Use cautiously.

@SummersJohns69 @Hybridathlete I’m not sure why he didn’t answer you but Hybrid Athlete Guy is using the MAF method to determine his zones. But if using the 65% of max calculation it is impossible.

Hey @LincolnRestler: If civilians should enforce parking laws, should we also empower them to ticket cyclists riding illegally on sidewalks and in crosswalks? Or is this “citizen enforcement” only when it fits your narrative?

If it is official NYPD policy to not enforce the law - then New Yorkers should take matters into our own hands. Pass my legislation to empower civilian enforcement of illegal parking and abolish parking placards.

Nikki Hiltz, a transgender & non-binary Olympian, speaks out against the event’s new anti-trans policy: “I don't know who needs to hear this but ZERO trans women competed in the Paris Olympics. Only ONE trans woman weightlifter competed in Tokyo 2021 and she did not win a medal. Can we please stop obsessing over trans people? And idk maybe focus our time, energy, and resources into real problems women's sports face?”

@AJA_Cortes Also, it’s kind of wrong. It’s going to take time for that protein to denature and for the aminos to be cleaved. Better to have it before the workout that way it’s getting absorbed and metabolized right when it’s needed.

@nogoodboypoints @LincolnRestler No, but if you monetize parking fines like bottles and cans, then you've got an entire cottage industry of people helping to enforce laws. Cops can worry about real things.

Emily let me clue you into something that has been a standing order for decades - No Doctors, Nurses, teachers and other city agencies. Since I was the Chief of Dept -I altered this to add , Any friend of @sidrosenberg19 was a friend of ours - free pass for Sid’s friends. I did this because I could. That’s just the way it is my precious snowflake.

@NBCNews This is not accurate. Transgender women are NOT banned from participating in the Olympics, they simply must compete under the gender in which they were born and not be on PEDs.
