Loves wildlife (especially birds), photographer and keen lister... garden, Cleveland and Western Pal... not necessarily in that order. Longing to be retired.

@BrittonatMarske @fosterian1971 @teesbirds1 @DurhamBirdClub I remember the review of Bean Geese and it was very strict on only accepting Taigas that were extremely well documented. Whilst this is scientifically justified I guess, it means, IMHO, many Taigas will have been lost. I remember seeing 4 on Scaling which were classic.

@fosterian1971 @teesbirds1 @DurhamBirdClub John’s book was an amazing pen to paper achievement (no typewriter) but missed many Cleveland birds, a victim of political boundary changes. Had we been Yorkshire he would have done better. Even Barnard Castle used to be in Yorkshire! A copy of his book is in Marske Library

These birds reminded me of the last Taiga Bean Geese we had in Cleveland, back in the winter of 2018/19. A group of six birds on Seaton Common. If we ever get any more, I am sure they will be very popular! @teesbirds1 @DurhamBirdClub

Given the rapidly declining wintering population of Taiga Bean Geese in Britain, it’s a species I never really expected to see in Ireland, never mind eight. It was the longest twitch I’ve ever done in Ireland - Mizen Head, Cork to Donegal (almost the longest possible) @BirdGuides

@HinleyStew @teesbirds1 Sounds good enough for me Stew! Surprised it’s taken this long with the numbers we get these days. Still a bit of a shock to look up and see them approach mind! 👍🏼

At the same time, taxonomy changes took more away than i saw, finishing the year further away from my dream of 900 species in the WP than when it started😡But 2025 is almost here and we'll go again! A new knee and another year closer to retirement both help!

Well 2024 reaches it's end... my first of two NY celebrations, at 9 pm (Partner from St. Petersburg) is almost here. A new personal best local year list and adding Pale-legged Leaf Warbler to my WP list the highlights but the only other WP tick was a silly Cat C...

@PAABaxter Hi Paul. I’ve reached out to a good friend from the south of France. I’ll let you know if he gives me anything useful

Any of my friends recently seen Wallcreeper in the south of France? We're going in the New Year and will be visiting the famous site of Les Baux to hopefully put this bogey bird to rest, but wondered if anyone had enjoyed success elsewhere - the more sites the better, thanks

Confirmation received that dna shows that the Marske Stonechat dna shows a "100% match to Siberian Stonechat S. maurus, and excludes rubicola and stejnegeri, which are both genetically v different".

Red-crested Pochard, Ropner Park, Stockton today. Unringed, fully winged and extremely wary. I was lucky to get these record shots 😉
