They have a few unique holidays. July 1 a day of mourning for the fallen Newfoundlanders at Beaumont-Hamel on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. They call it Memorial Day and is obviously concurrent with Canada Day. Many also often still observe Guy Fawkes Day and you cannot forget Tibb’s Eve.

TIL Newfoundland and Labrador still gives government staff a holiday on The Twelfth (that's the anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne).

@HipBoom @lakens @profjmb I started teaching SPSS in the MSc program. Then a colleague used Stata in the BSc. Since international students did not use Stata, I offered both. Now, we switched to R. I now have students familiar with SPSS, Stata and R. Will offer all three next year.

@AntalHaans @lakens @profjmb I feel your pain, although the last time I used Stata was in the 90’s. (I tend to cobble stuff together using SPSS and Matlab, but all the kids are using R now. Feel old.)

@HipBoom @lakens @profjmb And I will provide the syntax for each analysis in R! Sounds trivial to most perhaps, but as a Stata user this was quite a challenge (proud of myself...)

@oscbella @BBCNewsnight In North America, most kids live at home and commute to their local university. It isn’t a given to move across the country and live in student digs. Maybe a cultural change rather than Government action is required in the UK.

@BBCNewsnight The maintenance loan is a massive issue in itself regarding student debt. The cost of accommodation whilst studying away from home is crippling our young people. Government action needed now!

Listen to these cute foxy sounds! 🥰 Little vixen Summer has returned to the cemetery and she is whinging like a cub to demonstrate to her dominant sister Spring that she is submitting. She recently gave birth and is absolutely ravenous. She was doing well fending just for herself on her own patch in a garden nearby, but now that she has cubs to feed, she is desperate for food and revisiting her old stomping ground in the hope to source some food. 🐾 I think that Summer and her other sister Winter have no Beau or any other helper fox assisting them with rearing their cubs. So life is very tough for them a because they need to source so much more food. I am trying to help by feeding them daily - raw chicken which is full of taurine and also a raw scrambled egg as a quick and healthy energy boost.
