Everything about official bilingualism in Canada is built on myth. People can’t “just learn” a language they don’t need. Canada isn’t “built on” two equally-sized language groups. Bilingualism isn’t “necessary” to function at an elite level. It’s all just Laurentian folklore.

Imagine you’re the CEO of Air Canada…. ….sleepless and dealing with a brutal tragedy in real time with vast US and Canadian media coverage - and your PM decides to hit you with a cheap shot saying you lack ‘compassion’ because you lack excellent French language skills. But you’re the CEO of a regulated industry so he knows you can’t punch back. Even though his own French is carefully stage-managed. And the Governor General can barely speak it. The PM chose to use a national tragedy to score marginal political points with the Quebec language police. Tone deaf and gross. Je veux dire, c'est grotesque et d'une insensibilité totale.

You are absolutely right. I'm 62, did all my schooling in ONT to learn French through the end of high school (on top of my English and German fluency). I was a good obedient Cdn doing my part to make Canada a bilingual country to salve the sensitivities of our QC citizens. It's now 2026, my kids went through the same indoctrination, and Anglos in QC now have no rights to their language or education in English. Quebec broke the deal on so many levels. We were conned, and Quebec is still a parasite province blackmailing the rest of us to get a piece of our wealth through extortion, I mean, transfer payments. Our honourable conduct got us less than nothing. So, forgive us if we don't give a f..ck anymore about QC sensitivities. My condolences to the families of the pilots.
Marc Lévesque@MarcLevesqueEco

I’ll bet my shirt — my whole wardrobe, in fact — that the overwhelming majority of the people who are shrugging off, or even mocking, the concerns and complaints about Mr. Rousseau’s English-only eulogy, don’t speak a word of French themselves, and couldn’t give a f..ck.

While everyone should have the right to end their own life on their own terms, I plainly don't trust government and the bureaucracy that has arisen to handle MAID. Bureaucracies have no soul. Their employees are always "just doing our job". The Nazi Adolf Eichmann was just a terrifyingly ordinary, unimaginative bureaucrat: "the banality of evil". We humans build systems that can do incredible harm. We need to be more careful.
Dei Civitas@bill_c10

In Canada, the government murders you, then puts a fake cause of death on the death certificate. 🤔 Wasn’t there a regime that did something similar in the 1930s and 1940s?

WTF is this nonsense? I'm pretty sure lying about the circumstances surrounding the death is against the CPSO's rules of ethics. What is recorded for suicides??????

The @cpso_ca reiterates its policy of falsifying euthanasia death certificates. "The certificate cannot include any reference to MAID or the medications administered."

Yes, @RobertPicardo. And I was fooled into thinking you were a reasonable Catholic fellow who just differed on politics. Once you started attacking me as a troll and lying about me saying I'm just disliking a show for a few bucks on X (like it makes a difference), I knew you were following a studio narrative to try to discredit fans as a cynical marketing push for this godawful tragedy. You owe me and others apologies for your behavior. It wasn't right to treat the fans that way.

They’re lying about the numbers. There are 105,000 AR-15’s alone. Thats one of 2500 models banned. Are they suggesting all other models combined = 51,000? Ridiculous - it’s over 2,000,000

.@Safety_Canada Minister @gary_srp estimates 166,000 “assault-style” firearms are subject to $742 million national buyback program. Only 51,000 have been registered with 6 days remaining before expiry of compensation deadline. blacklocks.ca/six-days-to-fi… #cdnpoli

@HeatherLangtry @TristinHopper Zero outrage involved. Simply compassion and empathy for the families as they go through this terrible tragedy. And a simple translation for the French pilot would have been a sign of respect. Not political. No outrage. Just sadness.

Air Canada has gone 43 (!) years without a fatal incident. My entire life up to this point has been lived in a country where the flag carrier never got a single person killed in a crash. The record is a totem to what serious people can accomplish. So naturally, Mark Carney is screaming at them to instead focus on nonsense.
Harrison Faulkner@Harry__Faulkner

PM Mark Carney on Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau delivering a video address only in English: "I'm very disappointed, as others are, rightly so, in this unilingual message of the CEO...lack of judgement and a lack of compassion."

@fandompulse I will resist the unkind response that comes to mind. “White washed”? F/O you racist weirdo. I mean, I appreciate weirdos (I am one too), but I can’t stand the racist ones. IDIC doesn’t include vilifying white, straight, men.

Starfleet Academy actress Gina Yashere reacts to the show's cancellation: "Obviously, gutted. I thought we made an amazing show. The first season was fantastic. ... And Season 2 is even better. ... Obviously, the world is still not ready to hear the message of love, peace, infinite diversity, acceptance, the eschewing of violence and senseless wars. We're not ready to hear that message yet, and hopefully one day we will be. And Star Trek will be back stronger than ever. And preferably with the same message and not completely white washed." Do you agree with her?

@CTVNationalNews I’m confused. Why are Toronto Police going to be equipped with assault style weapons that the Liberals tell us are “designed to kill the most people in the shortest amount of time”. Why do TO Police want to kill so many people?

It’s interesting to read critiques of the Moon base proposal, which seems like the smart path forward and could fit within NASA’s budget. The gist I’m hearing from critics is that this Isaacman priority is happy talk, will all fade away, and not happen. Then you realize these were the same people who: - Said Isaacman wouldn’t be renominated - Said he would was a political amateur - Said he couldn’t build a coalition to cancel EUS and put SLS on a path toward sunset -Said he was an Elon puppet (who has subsequently prioritized getting Blue Origin moving on HLS due to Starship delays) - Said he would never get Congress, which called it a “national priority,” to go along with canceling Gateway - Said he would never actually cancel Gateway These people are now saying Isaacman can’t get NASA and its contractors to execute on a plan that has administration and Congressional support. The reality is, from a policy and political standpoint, NASA is in a better place now than it has been for years. If the Moon Base fails that’s on NASA and private industry, not stupid policy. And believe me, I’ve seen a lot of terrible, pie-in-the-sky space policy over the decades. #JourneyToMars It’s a new era. I’m not sure everyone realizes this, but Isaacman and his team have eyes wide open to a lot of the major challenges facing NASA and they’re trying to fix them. They’re working long days. Weekends. It’s inspiring to see our government work like this, especially in an era when so much seems broken. I don’t know what will happen. Maybe this Moon base all will fade away. But I do know that NASA’s chance for success in the next couple of decades is a lot higher today than it has been for a long, long time. What we were doing was decidedly not working. This has a chance.

Outside of the fact that the film is incredibly well-made, I’ve been ruminating on why Project Hail Mary has struck such a cultural chord. I think it comes down to the reality that society is starving for hope. “Cool guy” cynicism is dead. People are craving “earnest,” even when it’s cheesy. We’re through resonating with jaded and bitter characters that turn up their nose at concepts of goodness and self-sacrifice. We want someone who stares the apocalypse in the face and still finds a reason to have hope, crack jokes, and love their friends well. They pushed nihilism HARD, and it has been thoroughly and utterly rejected by the masses. PHM is a return to meaningful storytelling, rather than disillusioned content-creation.
