Todays post is on the Scotch Church turned Sally Citadel on Howard Street - one of, if not the first, commission for John Dobson after finishing his studies down in London. May I say this is my favourite building in North Shields? Bit long, so free for everyone on Patreon!

The Mushroom Hotel Mushroom Quay in Byker 1886. The hotel sat next to the Mushroom Ferry Landing, a busy transit point for workers in the local chemical factories, soap works, and glasshouses.

The world's smallest(?) Battlefield visitor information centre, Flodden. The nearby Battlefield trail is superb and to do it justice warrants a return trip (in the diary).

Ouseburn Valley was once one of the most important industrial areas in the North East. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the valley was packed with flour mills, glassworks, iron foundries, and boatyards, all powered by the Ouseburn stream as it flowed down into the River Tyne.
