From the archive: We asked @crmiller1 (Author of Chip War) how the global race for semiconductors became so high-stakes.
“You couldn't really separate the development of military power or a country’s strategic position on the world stage without understanding their ability to access and deploy computing power."
"We’re seeing a new version of that now with AI, but it’s replicating what we saw in the Cold War between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, or the economic competition with Japan in the 1980s."
"Then as now, there's a deep link between access to compute and strategic power.”
Invigorating discussions at the Global Quantum Forum these past few days, especially my fireside chat with @crmiller1. Chris and I covered a lot of ground as we talked about the essential role quantum (and companies like @PsiQuantum) will play in our future, including the significant implications for national security, scientific research and more.
Among the points I made:
1) The importance of long term, patient capital. 2) Quantum is foundational to the next era of computing. And 3) Global supply chains require the right, long term policies.
Thank you, Chris Miller, for the great discussion!
