Africa must end the exports of its raw materials. The export of raw materials is the door to poverty. The export of value-added products is the highway to wealth. And Africa is tired of being poor.

"What is happening in Plateau State is no longer isolated violence. As rightly pointed out by Governor Muftwang, this has become a deliberate, systematic pattern of coordinated attacks."
Peter Obi@PeterObi

I am deeply saddened and troubled by the tragic news of yet another senseless killing in Bassa, Plateau State, where over 50 innocent Nigerians have lost their lives. This heartbreaking incident comes barely a day after I visited Plateau—a land of courageous and resilient people who, for years, have continued to cry out for justice, peace, and protection. To return from such a visit only to be confronted with another round of bloodshed is both painful and unacceptable. No nation can thrive when its citizens are slaughtered in their homes and communities without consequence. What is happening in Plateau State is no longer isolated violence. As rightly pointed out by Governor Muftwang, this has become a deliberate, systematic pattern of coordinated attacks. It is imperative that the federal government urgently rises to its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property across Nigeria. This is not the time for promises and press statements. It is time for concrete, strategic action. The people of Plateau need more than sympathy, they need security. The federal government must immediately deploy reinforced security operations and actionable intelligence to dismantle the criminal networks behind these atrocities. We cannot continue to mourn our fellow citizens daily while those responsible walk free. There must be justice—and it must be swift, transparent, and total. The perpetrators must be identified, apprehended, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Nigerians deserve to live in peace, with dignity and without fear, in every corner of this country. My heart goes out to the bereaved families, and I pray that the souls of the departed rest in peace. May God grant the people of Plateau strength in this time of profound grief. –PO

A Picture That Lifted Me, Now Weighs Heavy on My Heart. I took this photo during the 2023 general elections in Nigeria. A powerful moment where a young boy stood in front of @PeterObi ’s convoy in Orile, arms wide open, fearless and unfiltered. That single frame resonated with thousands, and for me, it became a defining moment in my journey as a photographer. It shot me into new spaces, opened doors, and became a symbol of something bigger than just an image. But behind the lens, there’s a weight I now carry. It has been hard to look at it without feeling pain. I recently found out that the same boy, this same kid who unknowingly gave so much meaning to that photo, was victimized by touts just last month. They attacked him because he didn’t “share” the money he received from kind Nigerians when the picture blew up. That broke me. To create something so powerful, only to find that its ripple effect brought harm to the very subject that gave it meaning… it’s hard to process. This picture was a treasure. Now, it holds a deep ache in my heart. Thankfully, he has now been released, thanks to the incredible work done by Barrister @InibeheEffiong. And I’m grateful that Peter Obi and the leadership of the obidient moment through, @YunusaTanko also stepped in to support. There’s some relief in that, but the weight of it all still lingers. But I can’t help but reflect on the responsibility we carry as storytellers; to not just capture moments, but to protect the lives within them. This is a reminder that every photo we take carries a responsibility. Let’s do better, for every child whose face becomes a headline, and for every story we tell. I’m hopeful that a new Nigeria is still possible.
