What is striking is not only the threat itself, but the silence that accompanies it. The deliberate targeting of a country’s electricity infrastructure, with full knowledge that it will cripple hospitals, water systems and civilian life, is not merely a tactical option. It raises the most serious questions under international humanitarian law and, on any serious reading, constitutes a war crime. Such conduct would place Trump as a sitting or former president within the reach of universal jurisdiction, exposing him in principle to prosecution for war crimes in foreign courts. Yet this legal reality is scarcely mentioned. The omission to mention this is an indictment of a Western media culture that strains to analyse power while shrinking from naming its illegality and international law consequences.
