Getting up close with ST44-1228. This machine was built in 1979 (making it 47 years old), and received a heavy overhaul back in 2011.
It's one of over 3000 locos to be built for the Soviet railways and also being delivered to places such as Cuba, East Germany and North Korea! 🤯

Made a seat reservation from Berlin to Warsaw this morning. Lousy experience with PKP Intercity's new website...
The drop down doesn't work. It can't be switched from 'Indifferent' to 'by the window' (or anything else).

@andrew_grantham That’s bizarre looking. I wonder if it’s a Chinese mining locomotive. I doubt the Taliban have developed heavy industry to the point of domestically designing and building a locomotive.

The Nairobi to the port of Mombasa line is part of China’s Belt & Road programme. The line is being extended onto Uganda. It passes right through wildlife parks with the track elevated above giraffe height!
Freight goes to the Chinese built port. Huge China influence in Africa.
