SB207 would increase the time limit to 10 years for prosecution of public corruption crimes committed by elected officials or public employees. It passed the Senate 24-12. Every Orleans senator voted against it. #lalege

My husband and I started bringing our trash grabbers on evening walks last year, and in just 3 blocks last night, we picked up 2 bags of trash. New Orleans deserves better. We need more enforcement and real consequences for the people littering and actively trashing our city.

@SteveSkojec I was born in 1987. I remember landlines, Walkmans, and digital cameras.

The last time I re-posted this meme, I asked "When did Millennials have Walkmans and Landlines?" I got thousands of irritated replies. Some kind of generational fuckery happened around 2012, and "Gen Y" got renamed "Millennial" and the starting years changed. Depending on which sociologist you reference, elder Millennials were born anywhere from 1978 to 1980 (but some older stuff allegedly pushes that all the way out to 1985). Born in 77, I'm in the last year of Gen X, which technically makes me a "Xennial." I am still trying to understand how people my age and older basically got sold on the idea that Millennials were, in fact, the kids we now call Gen-Z/Zoomers, with all of their traits. Millennials were never the tide-pod eaters, were not the kids who grew up after the internet, none of it. But many of us have that association in our minds, and it's weird.

Stephen Colbert is Catholic. What does that say about Catholicism? Just because there are liberals who are Catholc then that makes it bad? I'm Catholic by the way but this is a poorly constructed argument with many flaws. Colbert likes it because it's the a great story that created an entirely new genre of fiction.

The constant pumping of music into every public space, every idle second of sport, every supermarket and café, speaks to an underlying sickness, a kind of cultural mental illness. As a society we are allergic to silence, terrified of spending even one second with our own thoughts

I see two options here. One, we need the state to pony up infrastructure funds to make sure all residents are able to receive electricity and internet. Alternatively, the more drastic measure is to fully privatize the entire grid and create a market incentive to provide power to these people.

@ScottDKushner I appreciate Louisiana's affordability when it comes to higher education. I'm a graduate of UNO with TOPS. However, it's apparent that for the size of our state, it is not financially viable for the long run.

@owroot Not a single scene is wasted either. Am I the only one who feels like modern cinema is full of pointless scenes? Down to every sing-along song, it all completes the story.

I watched The Lion King (1994) recently with my kids. I hadn't watched it since I was probably 8. What an epic movie. It's kind of nuts how epic it is actually. And some points in the score punch way above their weight for an animated movie - the cue "Kings of the Past" is a good example. No big grand takeaway here, was just sort of blown away with fresh eyes by the general epic of this 1990s animated movie.
