Regarding the @NYIslanders #MatthewSchneider, no need to award the kid prizes yet -- they are already on their way -- but never in my young lifetime have I encountered a total athlete -- including being a "mensch," -- like him. If Isles make playoffs, he gets the Hart."

@RepGarbarino Don’t cave on SALT! As a blue collar, middle class constituent, we NEED SALT deductions restored to at least $35k. Don’t back off of this!

@stuholden Not. Old Trafford is Hallowed Ground, and they’ll use the sheer scandalous cost of this as an excuse to leave the EPL and compete in a no-merit European Giants League.

@stefen_rosner They came out with fire. Gave up a flukey goal. Gave up a shortie. Then THEY GAVE UP. Vs our biggest rival that embarrassed us @ home last week, they GAVE UP. Vs a team that played the night before, inexplicably outplayed in the 3rd. GAVE UP! Trade them! #Isles

@DynoDangle Incorrect. The Isles have been one of the best teams in the league the last 10 games. If they continue playing this kind of hockey you buy at the deadline, not sell.

What a smart GM would do regardless of circumstances, for the 100th time: Trade Nelson, if these reports are accurate and SIX teams have inquired then the #Isles could probably get 2-3 great pieces for him and bolster the franchise. He can re-sign after if all of this true.
Chris Botta@ChrisBottaNHL

ON BROCK NELSON: The following is from multiple sources regarding Nelson & #Isles and interest around the NHL: - Nelson’s first choice is to sign long-term with NYI. He’s close with several teammates, loves LI and the franchise, and believes in NYI’s potential to contend again. It is said that Brock feels very loyal to the Islanders, while also understanding he will be in high demand if he becomes a UFA. - Sources confirm what many of you would expect from Lou Lamoriello: as long as NYI are within shouting distance of a playoff position, Lamoriello is unlikely to trade Nelson — even if the President/GM does not have an agreement on a new contract with Nelson by the trade deadline. - Despite a comment on a recent ESPN Islanders telecast that “it’s the worst-kept secret” and other outlets reporting rumors that Nelson is bound to become a member of the Minnesota Wild by the summer, Brock nor anyone else in the Nelson camp has indicated this. What is accurate, of course, is that GM Bill Guerin and the Wild will pursue Nelson in a trade or if he becomes a free agent. - It is believed that the Wild are among at least six teams prepared to offer trade packages for Nelson IF closer to the March 7 deadline Lamoriello ever conveys that he’s open to dealing him. - Where does all this leave us today and almost certainly until March 1 at earliest? Lamoriello will use all the time he has to make a decision, as is the Hall of Fame GM’s history and as he should. Trade deadline is March 7. Brock Nelson is a special Islander and this is a special case. - Lamoriello also runs the risk of not trading Nelson, the Islanders not making or not going far in the playoffs, and losing this tremendous player — who turns 34 at the start of next season — for nothing. ***So that’s it from me on this subject for a while, probably. My thanks to everyone who made it this far, and for sharing your respectful views in the replies.

@stefen_rosner Ottawa gets credit, but you block more shots when all of your shots are coming from the blue line.

#Isles just not good enough after such a strong showing on the road. Ott was down to 5D early but NYI couldn’t take advantage. Credit Ott who blocked a ton of shots, 7 for Zub. But, certainly was a winnable game.

@NYIslanders I guess I'll have to do this, but right now I'm not missing them yet, which has not been me for the past 37 or so years. I've kind of had it

@NYIslanders **** off! I already pay for the channel with Cablevision, and then I pay for ESPN+ because some of the games started going there. I will not NOW pay MORE to watch the team elsewhere. I’ll listen on radio and watch highlights or I won’t watch at all.

@IslesDen You can’t sit someone every time they make a bad mistake if you haven’t got the scratched bodies to take their place next game. We’ve seen him bench players for a period or so.

When the #Isles hired Patrick Roy I was happy there would be some accountability. That just isn’t the case. If Engvall made the turnover that Cizikas made the other night, Roy would’ve had his ass on the ferry. There’s no reason for Cizikas to be playing on line 3.

@WillChiarucci Special Teams. They lose the special teams battle EVERY night. They compete, they get great goaltending. They give up PP goals and they don’t score any. And that’s your whole story. Barzal, Nelson and Horvat have to be better production-wise.

This is a damn Lou Lamoriello problem. I know what I said a week ago but Patrick Roy is right. They’ve been every game. Outside of special teams sucking and them not finding the back of the net if You disagree on that than we’re not watching the same game. #isles

@SNY_Islanders And he’s right. But they lose the special teams battle EVERY NIGHT and that’s the difference. Typically when you lose back to back 1 goal games to one of the better teams, you’re playing good hockey.

"I have nothing to support what I'm going to say - but we're playing good hockey" Patrick Roy says he "wouldn't change nothing" with the Islanders approach and cites tonight being the 11th time the Islanders lost when they gave up less than 2 goals

#isles Alright, this is for all of you frustrated with my takes on Sorokin. He's going to finish this game with a season save percentage of .903. How low does that go before you start seeing him as playing below his ability?

@islanders_takes Getting bodies back will help. They HAVE to improve the PK and PP significantly to have success. That’s non-negotiable. We have to have it.

#isles I hate myself. I can't help it. The optimist in me is too strong. What if they get Barzal, Duclair, and Pelech back and that Bottom 6 gets better simply by pushing a couple guys out of the rotation? What if Patrick Roy is actually learning through the season and improves as a coach? What if Holmstrom continues to play at a high level on the 3rd line? What if Sorokin continues to run more steady than shaky? What if Horvat shakes off the rust and Lee, Nelson, and Palmieri have 30 goal seasons? I hate myself.

#Isles HC Patrick Roy said that he could tell at morning skate this morning that the guys were feeling good and ready to go. Wasn't surprised to see them throw the body often tonight. "We wanted to win that game."
