@DanWuori Works for adult learners too! One of the best bits of teaching advice I got in teaching college students-- When you ask a question to a class, count silently to 10 before you jump in.

Baby Beat Box! 🎤 Yesterday I wrote about “serve and return” interactions. Here’s a unique variation with an important lesson of its own. Watch this little one’s focus. His eyes NEVER leave Dad’s face as he works to unravel the mystery of the noises he can make with his mouth. But the best part of this video is something Dad does. Something all new parents can learn from. He stops and he waits… He gives Baby the time needed to process what he’s seen and heard. And wow, does it ever pay off. It’s not instantaneous. But baby mimics him back. So fantastic! As you interact with your baby, lean into that pause. You might be surprised by the results. This amazing duo was shared to IG by creabeatboxoficial.

One of the things I know is that parents need grace. We all miss some practices or games, and that’s ok. It can be centering and protective for our kids and teens to have a regular family meal together. A tip I learned from the research of @Home4DinnerBook. Eat together often!

With the new school year starting, parents should be kind to both their kids and themselves. Dr. Howard Liu talked with @TODAYshow about how the whole family can prepare for a smooth transition: on.today.com/3Kw4qvC

Enlightening study @hgse “We’ve been hyper-focused on teens, and we sort of pluck them out of their families. We talk a lot about how social media is what’s driving teen depression and anxiety, but we can’t look at teens in isolation,” Weissbourd says. bostonglobe.com/2023/07/14/lif…

Dinner in a Box is food with a helping of fun and conversation: @WellspringMulti: "We want families to have something to look forward to when they receive their food boxes. We think that TFDP resources will show that someone cares about how they are eating.”

Occasionally you get lucky and get a shot you really love. That happened today when I captured a magnificent Baltimore Oriole as it rose through an oak tree in Central Park. Some orioles will build nests and raise their young here! 🧡🖤🧡#birdcpp

Fascinating article about cultural preferences in taste, texture, and food words. Japanese language has 400 terms for food texture. Does more openness to foods lead to more words or v-v? For kids who fearful about new foods, asking them to use words to describe taste is helpful.
Howard Liu, MD MBA@DrHowardLiu

A sense of culinary adventure is shaped early at the family dinner table, through travel and by a sense of curiosity when cooking and dining. I love finding something new and interesting for my kids to try. Food is a language and window into culture! nytimes.com/2023/05/08/t-m…
