Extreme drought has expanded further in the past week. Worse than the peak of the drought in 2016 in terms of coverage. A similar area as 6 years ago. Middlesex, Essex, and Norfolk counties getting the brunt again. Tree damage will be extensive. #Drought22

Hard dry soil becomes hydrophobic as waxy particles build up during #drought and repel water. This is why downpours don't do much to alleviate drought. We need slow long-lasting rain to remoisten the soil and make it more absorptive again. You can add organic matter to help.

State officials have declared a "significant drought" in much of Eastern Massachusetts. Parts of Western and Central Massachusetts, along with the Islands, are in a "mild drought":

Please check your water before using it and you may need to run your cold water line to clear lines in your home.

Please be advised that crews will be flushing a hydrant in Woodville this evening starting around 9 PM. Once the wells turn back on Friday morning, this could spread the discoloration back toward town.

@HopkintonMA @HopNews @hcamtv @NewsHopkinton @HopkintonDPW the town is currently conducting an inflow and infiltration survey on the sewer lines to remove extraneous flows from the system.

Please be advised that the Fire Department will be conducting an unexpected equipment test that will require a high flow from a hydrant.  This could cause discoloration throughout the system. You may need to let your cold water line run in order to clear your pipes.

Hydrants on Hayden Rowe St. Are being utilized to help fight the fire and could lead to some discoloration in the area.

Please be advised that due to a fire and hydrant use in the center of town, there may be discoloration in the water.
