@samesfandiari Dray + Moody works under the cap, I think. JB for Zion + Herb also works. Or Zion+ Loon, for an option that would presumably be cheaper draft pick wise

I would gamble on Zion. Best bet

New story for @YahooSports: The Pelicans’ level of investment in Derik Queen has many executives around the league assuming Zion Williamson could be on the market this offseason. “New Orleans is home for me. It’s where I want to be,” Zion told me. “But at the end of the day, if we're going to be realistic about it, the NBA is a business. I could be traded in the offseason, or I could be traded before [next season’s] trade deadline. “Not that I want that to happen,” he added. “But that’s just the realism of it.” You can read the story 👇

@samesfandiari Watching Zion reminds me of 2007ish Amare Stoudemire or 2015ish Blake. Still a great player, and you still see flashes of his nuclear athleticism, but it’s not there consistently enough due to injuries having sapped his burst.

@nothing19365 @CSElmendorf @sdamico Yea they just got done finally improving it at a high price (and it is nice!) - and it would have to be totally redone to massively expand throughput if you added thousands of doors where the race track is now.

So it looks like CA taxpayers will be shelling out the big bucks to "protect" 160 acres of land on the border of Berkeley and Albany from any housing development. Wouldn't a new waterfront park have more value if more people could live beside it?

The shuttered racetrack could be transformed into a 161-acre waterfront park linking Albany, Berkeley and miles of East Bay shoreline, in a deal announced Tuesday by the Trust for Public Land. sfchronicle.com/bayarea/articl…

@realitybasedlaw The good guy/bad guy frame is unhelpful. The reason for legal assistance is the power imbalance. What’s needed is not taking legal aid away from anyone but rather making housing court way way more efficient.

Unfortunately, in CA, we've developed a belief that whoever has the least money is automatically the good guy. So when, for example, a repeat squatter takes over the single house that a hard-working, blue-collar immigrant inherited from his mother, legal aid swarms to block the squatter's eviction for free. (I actually had this case.)
Russell Lowery@RussellLowery10

Government is supposed to punish the bad guys and protect the good guys. By funding the legal expenses of people who don't pay rent they are doing the exact opposite. The government makes evictions more expensive for the housing providers- who are the good guys (mostly).

@samesfandiari you’re questioning his comment on his “ceiling” while comparing him to low ceiling, high floor players. Love and Horford are great great basketball players… but, you’d be mad taking those dudes careers with a T3 pick. Everyone acting like Simmons said he isn’t gonna be good lol

Two reasons this doesn't concern me: -His shooting numbers are better than someone like Kevin Love's were in college. If you believe in the person, no reason to believe he doesn't become a very good shooter in NBA. -His passing/feel is special given his age. Hard to imagine this guy doesn't at worst become like Horford/Love and considering he's signficantly more productive than both at his age, i think his upside is being undersold

Bill Simmons questions Cam Boozer’s ceiling in the NBA: “I watched a lot of Duke over the last 5 weeks. His big go to move is he basically bullies you and does these little spin moves and ends up with the same little jump hook or turn around. His goal is always to get as close to the basket as possible. Which you can do in High school and even do in College. I don’t know if you can do that in the NBA as comfortably” (Via Bill Simmons Podcast)

@nationsgr8test @gswcba You can’t s&t Melt for any real money. Only have non-bird rights. Melt’s gone for nothjng if we make a big trade, which is why we probably should have traded him at the deadline

@gswcba I think Melton going elsewhere is the KEY to making a big improvement through trade. Between Dray and Mo that’s not enough to land a big fish salary wise. But if Melton commands 12-18 elsewhere S&T, add that with DG 27 and Mo 11, you’re right at a max contract value. Picks aside

Both of them? Incredibly unlikely. Would need both those guys taking below market value, Draymond to opt out and re-sign at a lower figure, and some trades. At this point, I think they will re-sign KP and Melton will get a nice deal somewhere.

@samesfandiari @lightyrspod Elgin Baylor, CP3 and Barkley. Also Malone, much as I hate to admit it. Harden and Malone have a lot in common but Malone played defense and was slightly less of a choker so I give him the edge. Nash is as good as Harden. Stockton, Ewing, Reggie all close.

@jinthirty @gswcba @DeAnthonyMelton This is why Friedl and others said we should trade him. Might be able to keep but it constrains other options to improve the team. Love Melt but this team + whatever you get out of JB ain’t it. Need to have flexibility to take a big swing, and if you do, he’s probably gone.

De’Anthony Melton says he wants to be rewarded for his hardwork this offseason: “I mean I’ve been in this league a decent amount of time now. So 8 years is a lot of time. I’ve put in a lot of time and effort and work into this, you know what I mean? So I think that should be rewarded and I think, for anybody, you put in that much time, effort, work and you know you’ve seen the results and you’ve seen how much impactful you are and what you have done, like I said, you want to be rewarded for that. So, whatever comes with it, comes with it, but end of the day you want to get rewarded for your services.” (via @957thegame)

Matchmaking client, 46, 6’2, exited tech founder, is looking for someone super specific. Complex national search. My team grinds 100+ hours to get me on the phone with one potential match. We’re chatting, and… She’s perfect. I start describing him, and she’s interested!!! Then I send his photo. “Oh, we went on a date 2 years ago. He’s sweet, but not for me. Have any other clients?” ☹️☹️☹️

It’s weird there aren’t more savory drinks. Take broth for instance. There are so many broths I would absolutely drink straight out of a mug. So how come there’s no Starbucks for broths? Am I just weird?

My coworker’s boyfriend was out of town for work for two weeks, and she was feeling really lonely, so she stayed with me for a couple of days. When she left her place in the rush, she accidentally forgot to turn off the lights. Two weeks later when he came back and they opened the house, the lights had been on the whole time. She immediately started apologizing and felt awful because he’s the one who pays the bills. He just held her hand and said, “It’s okay, baby. If I wouldn’t yell at myself for doing it, why would I yell at you?” …At that moment i knew she found the one.

There's actually a lot of evidence that humanity is not like chimps, we're more like bonobos—i.e., we don't normalize killing the offspring of other men, rape, or wanton violence. Info dump coming, just a head's up. In the wild, you can tell which animals heavily rely on rape to reproduce by examining their genitalia. My favorite (I know, that word sounds weird in this context) are certain types of ducks. Some duck ladies have very twisty vaginas, and spontaneous abortion is pretty common. This is because they evolved ways to deal with constantly being raped, as horrible as it sounds, to make sure that the male ducks they actually want to have sex with have a better shot at impregnating them. So when a lucky male duck they fancy mounts them, their twisty vaginas (cloacas, really, but it's complicated) straighten out to increase the chance of fertilization. But when a male duck they don't like mounts them, the vagina remains all curvy, with dead ends, and there's a good chance that they're not going to get pregnant. You can even see them cleaning themselves out with their beaks afterwards. In turn, male ducks of these species declared evolutionary genital warfare by developing odd twisty penises that can sometimes exceed 15 inches in length. Nothing is stranger than watching a duck fly overhead and wondering why it looks like a balloon with a long string attached, and realizing that long string is actually its dick, which can be over twice as long as the duck itself. This sort of development is indicative of species that are very rapey. But know what species doesn't have this? That's right: humans. Us human women have pretty short and simple vaginas, and we can't spontaneously abort like mice or horses can. That's probably because, evolutionarily speaking, we really didn't ever have a great pressure to do so. Rape was just not that common. What's great about anthropology and evolutionary biology is that it has answers for a lot of the navel-gazing gender discourse that passes for "intelligent thought" in the manosphere, and they have zero clue that any of it exists.

Not enough people talk about Rob Deer • .220/.324/.442 (.766 OPS), 109 OPS+ • 230 HR, 600 RBI, 11 MLB seasons • Reached 20 HR 8x, 80 RBI 3x • 4x MLB strikeout leader • Real feast-or-famine hitter • 32 HR, 84 RBI, 198 K per 162 • Never played in the postseason • Did his best work with Milwaukee • (Also played for DET, BOS, SFG, SD) • Top B-R Similarity Score: Joc Pederson • He would be a $200 million player today • Over an 8-year span from 1986-93, Rob Deer hit the 6th-most home runs in baseball, trailing only five of the greatest power hitters of all time and coming in ahead of some of the most iconic players of his era
