A reminder that only 9months ago we were living our best lives. Literally. The buzz around the club was incredible. Arne Slot had something to do with that whether you like it or not. And for that reason, plus understanding the hand he’s been dealt this season, I cut him a bit of slack. It’s not blind faith, or “accepting mediocrity” as some assume, it’s having a bit of understanding that different situations arise in football, some even beyond football, and this season has been tough for many reasons.
The football isn’t great, and that’s being polite, but we’ve seen spells of what we can do. It hasn’t all been doom and gloom. But the way we’re playing is still not acceptable for a Liverpool team, especially one with the quality we have! The results have been shocking! No sugar coating that. But that can be put down to a number of reasons. Has he made mistakes? Yes, in all departments. Is he aware? Yes. Has he been way too honest in interviews? Yes. And it’s not helping him one bit! I wish he’d just stop answering daft questions from the media! I’m not Slot in or Slot out. I just want Liverpool to feel like Liverpool, play like Liverpool and win football matches. I’m not sure there’s a quick fix, and I’m not sure a quick fix is necessary.
My hope is that the hierarchy are fully aware they’ve left him short, address it in the summer and we improve drastically over the summer and we see the real Liverpool next season. If that’s not clearly visible from early on, then there’s no other option but for him to go. But for me, he gets that option. But before we get ahead of ourselves and talk next season, current performances have to improve, we have to entertain the crowd, we have to be braver, and we have to win football matches. If those things happen and we end the season well, then he goes into the summer with the backing of those at the top, and hopefully a bit more support from the fans. But make no doubt about it, the credit in the bank for leading us to number 20 is running low, and I don’t think many more defeats can be accepted. It’s now or never for him, and us. We have to win games. Starting tonight! All we can do is get behind the lads and will them on to win! Leave the negativity for the boozers, vent online or whatever, but for 90mins each game, get behind the team and be there for them! Sometimes they need picking up too!
