Waller retweetledi

New book review on a fascinating book which I've been posting snippets of over the past few days. Usually book reviews would be for paid subs, but I thought this topic was too important to be put behind a paywall, so its open to all.
The predominant narrative of World War 2 amongst the youth now is that Churchill was a drunk who got himself in debt, only to be bailed out by wealthy Jews in return for him agitating for war with Germany.
But he suited such a role for a reason. His philosemitism was a lifelong phenomenon inherited from his father, who was also bankrolled by wealthy Jews.
Churchill in his early years in Parliament would die on the hill of allowing Jewish mass-immigration and crossed the floor over the matter, joining the Liberals.
There were anti-Jewish riots in Wales in 1911 and here Churchill was ready to send in the army with excessive force.
Even before the Balfour Declaration, Churchill was perhaps Britain's most prominent Zionist and then, in the interwar years, he essentially carried Zionism on his back whilst almost every other politician wished to be rid of the matter. Would Israel even exist without Winston Churchill?
After the war, Churchill would continue to shape the future of Israel by always speaking out in their favour, whilst all his colleagues drifted further into the pro-Arab camp.
A fascinating story with something for everyone and a mountain of gem quotes.
