Gergely Karácsony, Mayor of Budapest, received an award today in Kyiv from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Savior City award is given to cities that have done outstanding work in supporting Ukraine since the outbreak of the war. Budapest has provided real, tangible help. Budapest has supported its sister cities, Berehove and Kyiv, with donations, generators and other technical equipment. Budapest has helped care for refugees, and continues to do everything possible to make those fleeing the war feel at home in the city. Budapest is also still committed to hosting Ukrainian children for summer holidays, so that, for at least a few safe weeks, they can have a piece of their childhood back. 🇭🇺 🤝🇺🇦 Dicsőség a hősöknek!

This is Ukraine's UN rep wanting "no reconciliation with Russia for centuries". In other words, future generations ought to be constrained by the (admittedly terrible) events of the present, and Russia should be encouraged to feel at permanent war with Ukraine. Appalling.

Russia hit a dead-end on the battlefield, so it terrorizes Ukraine with deliberate strikes on city centres. These are abhorrent acts of terror meant to kill as many civilians as possible. Moscow reportedly using Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missiles – systems designed to carry nuclear warheads – is a political scare-tactic and reckless nuclear-brinkmanship. Next week, EU Foreign Ministers will discuss how to dial up the international pressure on Russia.
