Modi wants to destroy #DelhiGymkhanaClub out of his jealous loser mindset. Gymkhana clubs are elite, but those elites serve the nation. Half the membership is Army, isn't the Army the greatest nationalists? Why are bhakts hating on Armed forces' privilege? Aren't we supposed to worship Army? If you visit London or other European nations, you'll find buildings and spots which are preserved for over 500 years, the government / municipality takes special care that little tidbit information from the earliest times available are recorded and inscribed on a plaque near the spot. Things like, "In this Pub Shakespeare drank coffee" or this market is being continually running since 10th century etc. Even when repair and renovation work is done, they retain the outside facade the same way as it was in early times because there is value in heritage and legacy but Modi has been destroying one building after the another all the time invoking some or the other hate. BJP govt keeps inventing somebody to hate and the RW mob blindly hates the new target without realizing that when we destroy the legacy, we are destroying our own history. As for loitering which is illegal, a bonafide member has a right to use a property. A vast number of members at this ‘elite’ club are defence personnel who defended the freedom we enjoy.

Apropos Union Gov’s decision to destroy #DelhiGymkhanaClub my views: 1. I joined it in 1978/79 (applied in 1974). My father wasn’t a member. 2. Only all-India services & military officers got membership routinely. 3. The club, besides its other services, was famous for its tennis & squash facilities. Famous writer/journalist Khushwant Singh played tennis there till his 90s 4. The elected committees may’ve performed poorly, making gov nominate members. 5. As my old friend @thekiranbedi has opined Del Gym Club is a repository of sporting, services & cultural memories. Destroying it is untenable.

The Delhi Gymkhana Club is not just a property — it is part of our institutional and sporting heritage. Change may be necessary, but history and legacy deserve thoughtful preservation.
