How I Lost My Testicle Because of My Wife A few years ago, while I was in my urology posting, a man presented with testicular pain of about three weeks' duration. He often felt like vomiting, and the pain caused him so much discomfort that he told his wife about it. His wife, an auxiliary nurse, prescribed antibiotics for him and administered injections, but the symptoms persisted. When he finally presented to us, a detailed history and physical examination led to a diagnosis of testicular torsion. Testicular torsion is a painful condition in which the testicle twists, cutting off its blood supply. It is a serious medical emergency that requires urgent attention ,ideally within 4 to 6 hours to prevent the testicle from dying (necrosis). Unfortunately, he presented too late, and the affected testicle had to be removed (orchidectomy). Who is to be blamed? And do you think he will be able to father a child? This post is intended to raise awareness about testicular torsion in men and to strongly caution against self-medication.
