@teslayoda Interesting. If the cheapest R2 comes at around $50000, probably with a very slim margin. How are they going to make money on this deal?

Two things worth noting: 1. $1.25B ÷ 50,000 = $25,000 — the cost per robotaxi. 2. Tesla produces ~2M robotaxi-capable vehicles per year.

I’m excited to announce a partnership with @Uber. As part of this, Uber plans to invest up to $1.25 billion in Rivian and deploy up to 50,000 R2 robotaxis. This partnership accelerates our path to Level 4 autonomy and supports our goal of building one of the safest autonomous platforms in the world—across both shared and personally owned vehicles. The combination of Rivian’s rapidly growing data flywheel, our in-house RAP1 inference platform (800 TOPS), and our multi-modal perception stack provides a powerful foundation to scale autonomy quickly and responsibly over the next couple of years.

This new company called Tensor Auto is claiming they’re making the first Level 4 autonomous vehicle that you can personally own. It costs $200,000. 😂 • 37 Cameras • 5 LiDAR Sensors • 11 Radar Units • 22 Microphones • 10 Ultrasonic Sensors • 8 Water-Level Sensors

I'm starting to realize that even with all the high-powered Ai that Uber has to understand as much as they can about rider psychology and driver psychology, they don't actually truly understand the vast majority of passengers that use their app. Or if they do, they are purposely characterizing to others as something different than reality. Otherwise, how is it that very smart people who understand Ai much better than I do, are coming away from interviews with Uber executives thinking human-driven ride share is going to be around 10-15 years from now. And/or that Uber will just magically transform it's Ai algorithm from one that is entirely focused on human behavior, human weaknesses and the incentives that drive us; to one simply focused on just logistics and keep the same margins. Uber does a tremendous job of creating alpha and margin from the human weaknesses and psychoses shared by both drivers and riders. This alpha completely disappears with autonomy. As an Uber driver with 2,100 trips under my belt and a perfect 5.0 rating from my passengers, I am very proud of the service I have provided to my passengers. I have had some wonderful conversations, and even created some lasting relationships with some of them. But I can also say unequivocally that all of that will be worth about as much as a pot of piss in a world of rides done at $1/mile and less. And not even a big pot of piss, more like a gatorade bottle. Passengers of ride share (and I mean REAL riders, not any of you, the bougie well to do folks on X trying to keep up with Ai, but folks who actually really use rideshare) are some of the most price sensitive people I have ever met. They are all using multiple apps to get the lowest fare. Period. So it's interesting to see these posts from really smart people about how Uber is going to do this or that, and how it's going to be an aggregator of Tesla, Google and others. But no, that's not going to happen. It's not going to stand a chance. It just won't. There will definitely be multiple AV ride share companies, no doubt about that. But Tesla has already won this, based on the simple facts of the vertical integration from Tesla to own the entire stack from manufacturing line to passenger, and the actual REAL desires of the vast majority of human passengers. I LOVE being an Uber driver. I love talking to my passengers! And I will keep doing it until human driven ride share no longer exists in my home state of Texas. But my days of doing it are not long, and I know that, even as folks with 50 more IQ points than me haven't yet figured it out. So I am going to keep turning my earnings into my TSLA investment, and I am going to enjoy saying "hey" to more passengers while I still can, with a smile on my face and the best customer service they will ever have in an Uber. All love! ❤️

@tesla_rumors I can't believe the Tesla Optimus Gen 3 reveal would take place outside the US. It's highly unlikely. That would be a surprise.
