I know that you know what I’m thinking: Really excited that our @JHUEducation lab now has two forthcoming pieces on #socialperspectivetaking in a pair of @APA_Journals. Definitely some of our best thinking on trying to figure out what others are thinking (and feeling). (1/7)

Fascinating new paper uncovers a fresh cognitive bias: The illusion of information adequacy. Many of us believe we have "enough" information to make decisions—even when we're missing key details. Next time you're totally sure about something, ask yourself: -- What might I not know? -- What information am I missing? -- What have a gotten wrong?

Another data point on how important taking students' perspectives can be for fostering better teacher-student relationships... kudos to teachers for taking the time to invest in these relationships during all the challenges of the pandemic!

@jillbarshay @gerardsans @Carly__Robinson Good clarification @jillbarshay. Personally, I don't think it is bad practice at all & I do it frequently. However, our lab often doesn't publish the tinkering phase; when we do we are clear that these are *exploratory* analyses. *Confirmatory* analyses should be preregistered.

@HunterGehlbach @gerardsans @Carly__Robinson I don't understand why it's bad research practice to tinker around with prompts, of refine an intervention before rigorously testing it. To me, that's very different than p-hacking, where you make small changes to your regression models until you get statistical significance.

Researchers pitted man against machine in giving feedback on 200 middle and high school history essays. ChatGPT beat the teachers in 1 aspect of writing feedback, and it was close in 4 others. hechingerreport.org/proof-points-w…

@MatthewAKraft @LauraMStapleton @jw_snyder @seanrobertgill @HunterGehlbach The model helps to define what "average" is in terms of responses to items. In the figure above, you could draw a line at 0, which is average, and 1) say what they would report in terms of each item scale and 2) predict what percent answers at any item scale point and above.
