The United States is leading the way in sharing expertise to stop the spread of New World Screwworm and protect animal health, food security, and our agricultural economy. 🐄 In partnership with @IAEATC, we brought Dr. Heather Walden of the University of Florida to engage the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre experts, impacted Member States, and regional partners across the Western Hemisphere. By advancing tools like the Sterile Insect Technique using nuclear technology and convening the various stakeholders, we are working together to contain and eradicate this threat! @usunvie @iaeaorg At the meeting, @IAEAorg NAFA Director Dongxin Feng underscored that "New World screwworm causes very serious animal diseases. It not only impacts animal welfare but creates a significant impact for food security and the trade of animal products."

Scientific experts gathered this week for a technical panel on regional strategies for New World screwworm suppression and eradication in Central America and Mexico. @IAEAorg and @FAO are supporting countries to respond to a recent New World screwworm outbreak.

Ocean acidification, warming and pollution do not occur in isolation — their combined effects increase pressure on marine ecosystems and can threaten biodiversity and food security. Understanding how they interact is key to producing reliable data that supports effective ocean management. Through its Ocean Acidification International Coordination Centre Winter Schools, the IAEA offers hands-on training, preparing scientists to tackle the evolving pressures facing marine ecosystems. Experts from the Asia and the Pacific region and @IAEAorg met last week to launch an IAEA RCA regional technical cooperation project on enhancing capacity in theranostics and radiopharmaceuticals and improving the quality of clinical nuclear medicine services.

Senior representatives from Mozambique’s agricultural sector, including animal health, plant breeding and food safety, are gathering @IAEAorg to discuss strategic collaboration under the TC Programme, deepen their understanding of #Atoms4Food and to visit the IAEA–FAO labs.
