A warning from history The five "Cambridge Spies" Thrilled to share below an article I've written on the Cambridge spy network using #MI5 #BritishIntelligence records declassified earlier this month. Britain's search for the five #CambridgeSpies was the most complex and long-lasting counterintelligence investigation in modern British history. It tormented British counterintelligence for the best part of 30 years. The newly released records show, for the first time, how members of the Soviet network slipped through British security – but also how close British intelligence came to identifying them at various points. @thecipherbrief Hope you find my article informative – if you have any views, I'd be interested to hear them I'm also posting some of the key documents from the records below thecipherbrief.com/column_article… 📷

Digital archives are an indispensable teaching tool for classes in intelligence studies. One of the assignments in my Intelligence & Global Security class is to research primary sources in digital archives. What other digital archives in English can be added to this list? ⬇️

When & how did U.S. intel get the organizational chart of Stalin's SMERSH? #CIA-released doc in August 2023 shows that Soviet intel defector Anatoly Granovsky provided the organizational chart of SMERSH during his interrogation in October 1946. cia.gov/readingroom/do…
