In today's @timesofindia. As I say in The Real Deal 📘, in traditional sociocultural settings, marriage, relocation to a spouse's city, and new household responsibilities are a critical leak in women's paid employment. I also venture far enough to say that for women in STEM sharing their career goals with their prospective partner before marriage - including the support they expect from them - is absolutely critical. Review for The Real Deal on Amazon.📘💜 "She wears her priority for family AND career with pride- it is not this OR that. Without portraying herself as a superwoman who can do it all or sacrifice one for the other, she quietly demonstrates that you can put family priorities squarely on table and build a good career, simultaneously. The real deal I think is the ability to have and make that choice!" The Real Deal in STEM for women is often neither being a superwoman nor a sacrificial lamb. It is having to be smart, strategic and situational at various times - backed firmly with knowing what one's priories are. 🙏

Most women PhD holders in STEM in India find themselves unable to access long-term, lucrative, and prestigious research jobs. On #InternationalWomensDay, I write for @the_hindu on WHY inspite of boasting of the largest number of women STEM graduates - social, structural and systemic factors preclude the full and sustained participation of women in STEM research in India. 📝👩‍🔬 thehindu.com/sci-tech/scien… (behind a paywall)

It is impossible not to contemplate these statistics without a deep sense of frustration. Later generations will not forgive what we've done to them. Indeed, we're all culpable.
