The Texas State Association of Electrical Workers have published their report on the 88th Texas Legislative Session, which includes scoresheets for the entire legislature. When removing all of the culture war issues, the results are striking. acrobat.adobe.com/link/review?ur…

Our account was recently compromised, and an unauthorized post was made regarding our stance on data centers. That message does not reflect the views of IBEW Local Union 520. We stand firmly for our members and our communities. We will always advocate in their best interest.

@IBEWLocal520 @walmas There's a *desperate* need for solidarity between the trades and the community groups. Local 520, I'm glad you're in the conversation.

@tpbhsn @IBEWLocal520 Unfortunately this is part of being in a union. I was in the carpenter's union before I operated heavy equipment so I know how great the men and women of IBEW are. I've seen that on Facebook too so it's coming from within the organization but they are probably arguing about it.

This “NIMBY” talking point is one pushed by the billionaires and undermines the very concept of solidarity working class power is built on. You sound like the boss telling the striking workers he’s going to just close the factory down and move the jobs elsewhere.

@IBEWLocal520 @jt_haines Can you tell me which of the 10+ GW of proposed data centers between austin and San Antonio are “responsible”? They won’t disclose water use, they are pushing for tax abatements, they all have diesel back up generators and highly toxic fracked gas plants

@LouisABlanqui @jt_haines You’re making shit up, homie. My argument is that if they can’t be built responsibly, then they shouldn’t be built at all. You’d understand that if you had taken the time to listen instead of getting mad before you even ask for clarification.

@IBEWLocal520 @jt_haines Yeah but you’re arguing that they should be built. I’m here to tell you that whether they’re built ‘responsibly’ or not, building them will increase the political power of the very people screwing the working class the hardest.

I'm a labor union organizer and have been for almost a decade. I've helped hundreds of workers form and join unions. you're under the boss' table begging for scraps despite being on the menu for the next course.

@IBEWLocal520 Your statement assumes there is something I can fight for to build “good” data centers in my community and not let them end up in areas with less clout. It also ignores state involvement which leaves people with no say.

All these people do is lie. The data center is building its own power sources. And it’s going to reuse its own water. This is just ignorance coming from people who hate technology and hate markets. They have Stone Age mindsets, and don’t understand how anything works.

Why are Utahns mad? This data center will use more than 2x of the ENTIRE STATE’S current power usage and will be powered entirely by natural gas. It will be placed in the desert which due to topography has extremely limited water and (already) the worst air quality in the USA.

@IBEWLocal520 Your mealy mouth response was both hypothetical and conceptual - it’s clear that you are full of shit and just trying to avoid having to provide an actual example of an existing data center that was built responsibly

@justin_policy @cornoisseur I’m not at all saying that they shouldn’t be concerned about how these are getting built. Many seem to be interpreting otherwise, though. No idea why.

@cornoisseur I think on the timelines that many of these data-centers are being built, people are often right to be concerned about say, massive banks of behind-the-meter gas turbines and associated externalities. Not against building, but need public coordination and infra investments

@IBEWLocal520 No, you did not. You explained a concept of a data center, not an existing one. That’s a big difference.
