I have an older student in my class who just audits courses to stay sharp. It is such a delight to have class with him because he gets to show up purely with curiosity - not with any need to turn the curriculum into a selling point for a pointless corporate job. 1/3

Friday afternoon as a plumbing biz owner looks like this: - phone rings - 2 guys broke a pvc water main while digging it up - they can’t get the water off - I run to help - I get the water off in 2 min because you know how to do stuff when you’ve been doing it since you were 12 - we call in reinforcements to come help - I go pick up a crap ton of gas station chicken for the crew Pro tip don’t use PVC for a water main

Breaking character for a moment: Years ago I mentored a refugee family. A decade later, I’m still an extended member of their family. Utah has the best resettlement program in the US. If you get the chance to work with the refugee community, take it. It’s a beautiful experience.
